Somewhere along the way I lost my copy of MTV Unplugged, the live 10,000 Maniac CD. After finally replacing it, I wondered why it took me so long. The music was wonderfully melodic, with a gypsy music quality. This CD was my subsequent purchase of Natalie Merchant's solo work. At first I found the differences between her solo work and 10,000 Maniac not to my liking. I have listened to this several times now and have found some hauntingly beautiful songs. First let me say this..you be the judge. I love Natalie Merchant and this retrspective is a great collective presentation of songs from very notable albums.I recommend this if you are a concientious listener.She is poetic and bring awareness to child sex enslavement (Sally Anne), Culture that has gone crazy (Carnival), and of course humane conflict (Jealousy). I read somewhere that Natalie could sing an auto insurance commercial and you would listen to her. She is a great singer in her own right. This album proves it. I do know that Natalie Merchant has many different songs that are just as great as these. This is a great cd for many that love and appreciate Merchant catalog of hits. This I recommend for the person who wants a mini collection of Merchants best.
