Free Music Notes for Hot August Night (Remastered / Expanded) (2CD)Free Music Review: His best album... Hit: 5 Stars
This was the second album I ever bought, and inspired my interest in music and singing. I wanted to play beautiful acoustic guitar just like on this album, and also wanted to be able to sing just like Neil Diamond. Also, some of these songs really resonated with me.
Unlike like most albums which have many filler songs, most of the songs here are high quality, and given an extra dimension by the showmanship, emotional intensity, humor and the fascinating voice of Neil Diamond.
Considering it is a live album the production qualities are better than many studio albums.
The highlights on this album are the show stopping rendition of Brother Love, the best version he has done on any album. Song sung blue sung live, Cherry Cherry and it's infectious beat. Red Red wine country style. Soggy pretzels, and Girl you'll be a woman soon, which was used in the movie Pulp Fiction. Can you remember that scene where Uma and John Travolta were dancing. There are many more I could mention.
The arrangements on this album differ from the studio recordings with beautiful acoustic guitar being more prominent here. If you like Neil Diamond, then this is a must have album.

Free Music Review: Neil Diamond's Greatest Live Album!!! Hit: 5 Stars
There are many people like myself out there who have serious reservations about albums recorded live. The main difficulty with live performances is that the performer feels free to im- provise for the live audience. In so doing, the performer alters the quality and nature of the song being sung. This is a pro- found disappointment to those who wish to hear the song as it was originally recorded. This album, however, should put such fears to rest. Hot August Night is easily Neil Diamond's best live recording, and perhaps the best live recording of any artist, period! The listener can expect to find every song that Neil sings on this album virtually unaltered from its original studio version. I suspect that many of the songs on this album were being performed live for the first time. Perhaps that's why this live performance was downright exceptional! Hot August Night not only showcases Neil Diamond the singer; more importantly, it shines the spotlight on Neil Diamond the artist. Those who are not fans of Neil Diamond's music will find in this album a work of art, while those who are fans will just plain love it!!!
Free Music Review: SIMPLY THE BEST Hit: 5 Stars
WHEN I HEARD A REMASTER OF THIS ALBUM WAS BEING RELEASED, I SUDDENLY TURNED INTO HOMER SIMPSON AND SAID, "UMM,HOOOT AUGUST NIIIIGHT!" THIS IS NEL DIAMOND AT HIS BEST: YOUNG, HUNGRY & ROCKING!IT FEATURES ALOT OF LESS-KNOWN CLASSICS THAT TOOK A BACK SEAT ONCE HE BEGAN HIS BALLAD YEARS. THE BAND PLAYS THEIR HEARTS OUT, ESPECIALLY DENNIS ST. JOHN ON THE DRUMS, AND "RICHIE!" ON TYHE GUITARS. "MORNINGSIDE" IS BEAUTIFUL AND TOUCHING ENOUGH TO BRING TARS, "HOLY HOLY" EXHUBERATES RAW POWER THROUGH THE SPEAKERS, AND A ROUSING VERSION OF "CHERRY CHERRY" MAKES YOU WANT TO GET UP TO ROCK AND DANCE, EVEN IF YOU'RE BEHIND THE WHEEL OF A CAR! ALL OF NEIL'S LIVE ALBUMS SINCE THIS ARE GREAT, BUT UNLIKE THOSE, THIS ONE IS LESS THEATRIC AND HAS CAPTURED THE FEEL OF THE CONCERT EXPERIENCE, MAKING YOU FEEL LIKE,AS IF BY MAGIC IT'S '72, AND YOU'RE AT THE GREEK THEATRE WITNESSING THIS SHOW FIRST HAND! TO ALL NEIL DIAMOND FANS, OR EVEN PEOPLE LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO START, REJOYCE AND TREAT YOURSELF TO THIS CKASSIC GEM!
Free Music Review: astonishing considering its age Hit: 5 Stars
As someone who doesn't really like Neil Diamond I'm only reviewing this album as a music lover and a lover of live recordings. The first thing that struck me about this recording is its clarity - all the instruments (and there are ALOT of them!) get their due course. The orchestra, regular band instruments and Hammond organ all sit in perfect balance with each other. I have heard many live recordings old and new and not many come close to this in terms quality despite its age.
The second thing that struck me is its energy. The band is captured in one of those nights where they seem to just "give it their all", and it comes off. Diamond obviously enjoys showcasing his awesome band and encourages them to play their asses off.
This album is worth the price for the first two songs alone - the intro is a beautifully crafted piece that leads into a scintillating version of Crunchy Granola Suite. Diamond growles through this song sounding surprisingly similar to James Hetfield!
If you're a Diamond fan buying this album is a no brainer.
Free Music Review: Get Ready to Sing from the Rafters Hit: 5 Stars
What can i say about this album that hasn't already been said? In the 70's when i was just a young lad my mother use to play this Neil Diamond album religiously. Walking home from school and within ear shot i could hear the music belting out of our house and feeling slightly embarrassed that the music was actually coming from the house that i had to walk into. Once i left home i never thought of owning a Neil Diamond album. Now 30 odd years later i have to admit that i now own this album & i gotta say that when it is in my CD player i find myself turning up the volume and singing along to all the tunes just as my mother did all those years ago. Yeah its nostalgic but this album makes you feel as though you are part of the audience front and centre and is just a great feel good wholesome album. ND is truly a story teller with his music. There was a certain magic caught that night in the making of this album. A magic that can be felt everytime you listen to this album. It was great music then and it is great music still to this day.
