Free Music Review: A serious lesson in music and sound production
Hit: 5 Stars

Folks, no matter what you're musical persuasion and even if you don't have any, you should have this in your collection.
If you know of a better piece of work by any artist I wanna know!

Down the years my tastes have drifted to the likes of Vangelis, classical, you name it.. Still I have come back to this album again and again. It's a magnificent blend of energy and beauty and I aggree that it is rare that you find a live performance so good. It will serve music history as "Citizen Kane" has served film history. Well maybe that's an overstatement but I'm not sure..
Now there's just one thing I am dying to know - when will we ever get to buy this gem on video/DVD? Were those "Hot August Nights" even captured on film at all?

Finally, if anyone attended these concerts back in '72 I would dearly appreciate if they sent me an email - steve@aztechouse.com

Free Music Review: A Hit for All Ages
Hit: 5 Stars

Okay- I was allready a Neil Diamond fan but when I put it on the sterio last night, I was reminded why.

Diamond creates a feeling with each song and the listener gets caugt up in that feeling. Feeling the lonliness in "Shilo", the excitement in "Brother Eli" and the tenderness in "Play Me".

Also, the music crosses generations. Listening in my house was a 46 year old, a 24 year old and a 2 year old. All three couldn't help but dance around, sing and goof off. The music just commands that you listen and interact.

My only problem with "Hot August Night" is with "Soolaimon." For long time fans, you may have noticed that on this recording Diamond pronounces it "Soolaiman"- not "Soolaimon." Why the change? I found it distracting.

One last thing, I actually like "Soggy Pretzels."

Free Music Review: What's new about "Hot August Night"?
Hit: 5 Stars

The previous reviewers have all done a wonderful job of commenting on this album, but their comments overlook my personal reasons for buying the album. I have the original LP, the original two-CD set, and the "Original Master Recording." Why bother to put out the cash for yet another reissue of this album? Easy--because of the extra cuts: the first live performance of "Walk on Water" available anywhere, the return of "Kentucky Woman" to the set (an omission I always wondered about, considering that things like "Soggy Pretzels" were included), and an exquisite performance of "Stones," long omitted from concerts and recordings alike because it was feared to be too much of a downer for live settings. I'm biased because it's always been my fave, but try to convince anybody this cut is less than awesome!!!

Free Music Review: Still holds my attention even after four decades
Hit: 5 Stars

Neil Diamond is a master showman, I got this album when Vinyl ruled the media and I played this album until it couldn't be played anymore, I love Neil Diamond, even after all of these years, he can still do it for me in every song he sings and this album is no exception.
From "Cracklin' Rosie" to "Sweet Caroline" (Audience Participation hasn't happened yet) to a 6 minute + rendition of "I am...I said", one of my favorite Neil songs of all time, This album has it all plus additional cuts that were not included on the original release such as "Walk on Water", another Neil favorite of mine.
If you are a fan of Neil Diamond, YOU NEED THIS CONCERT CD in your collection, I will probably be purchasing Hot August Night II also to complete the set, who wouldn't?

This is a 70's concert you cannot afford to miss, I reccomend it.

Free Music Review: Amazing and Fabuleous
Hit: 5 Stars

Neil Diamond is amazing, amazing and amazing. This early concert at the Greek theatre in Los Angeles is a marvel to hear. His voice is still strong after all those years, but this DVD is a real treat. I was not in the audience at that time but I could feel the beauty of the show. This music of course has become the favorites of all his fans and have brought him such love and fame and attention to his song writing skills. Out of all singers and song writers, I do beleive that Neil Diamond is one of the top 10 great musical genius's. He loves to write, and as he says, "he must write", so we are the lucky people to be able to hear his songs from long ago, and even now, how he has become even better, and his music has grwon with all of us. Hot August Night has become a collector's item. I am so glad I got mine.
