Free Music Notes for Hot August Night (Remastered / Expanded) (2CD)Free Music Review: Buy This Again! Hit: 5 Stars
This is the fifth time I received Hot August Night. I first got this in '76. In '78 I bought it again after wearing out the first copy. I received a cassette copy in the mid '80's and then finally purchased it on CD in the early 90's. Today I bought it again after noticing there were three bonus tracks. This is a real treat as Walk on Water and Stones have never appeared on album before. In fact, I never knew Neil even performed this live - ever. I saw him in concert 10 times since 1976 and never heard either one of these two live. Walk on Water is fine, a little sparse compared to the studio recording but Stones is beautiful. This was the song that actually got me interested in Neil Diamond in the first place, back in the early '70's.
Free Music Review: One of the greatest of all time... Hit: 5 Stars
What can I say? Probably one of the best live albums of all time and one of Neils best. I can listen to this album over and over and over but I put it away for a long time so I don't wear it out. Then I discover it all over again and it simply blows me away. I usually listen to it alone and actually get tears in my eyes every time I listen to it. The music on this can move you this much. Every time I let some hear it they love it.
Favorite Songs on the album: Morningside, Canta Libre, Play me, And the Grass won't pay no mind, Soolaimon.
So, what are you waiting for? Do you want one of the best albums of all time and be moved more than you ever been in your life with music! Then get this album.
Free Music Review: What an enterence Hit: 5 Stars
you should buy this album cd just because of the opening tune... this is an absolute masterpiece where we find nd performing as we know him. its a piece of art you should not be without. But of course, this is not all,... after this opening tune ND surprises you with a unique concert, where every tune has found its place as if it all had to be like this. It is a statement of that time, showing ND on the top of his career. All remakes stay copies of the original, and that is what it is, THE ORIGINAL ND LIVE SHOW. Also the end gives you heaps of goosepimples, and that is what it is all about, isn't it? (thank you, thank you LA, you have been fantastic....)This masterpiece is the standard for all.
Free Music Review: 10 STARS Hit: 5 Stars
This is my favorite live album of all time. I remember listening to a tape of it in the car when I was little and when I bought the CDs I was amazed that it all just came back to me the first time through. The opening progression from solo cello to full blown rock band is a perfectly orchestrated crescendo of musical intensity. This CD set has helped me out on many long drives. Holy Holly is my highpoint. Where did he pull that from?!!? If he could only do that more, perhaps folks wouldn't have the label on him that they tend to nowadays. Just look at that cover picture!!!! Soolaimon/Brother Love's is amazing. Beats the live versions to death. Too bad there is no video of this one.
Free Music Review: Let me hear that, let me near that... Hit: 5 Stars
The first ten seconds of the album will make you feel as if you grabbed the cheap lawn seats at this most holy of Neil Diamond live recordings. The crowd is laughing, voices cheer in a sophisticated way. You can nearly smell the aura.
And then, "Crunchy Granola Suites" begins with an acoustic guitar and a bang on the percussions, in a huge way.
"Done To Soon" is chockfull of stellar organ, acoustic guitar and low-bass French horn.
Mr. Diamond pays homage to his fans, including the "tree people", which he loves, and truly shines in this album.
The rest is history.
This is the finest of live albums ever recorded.
