Free Music Notes for Hot August Night (Remastered / Expanded) (2CD)Free Music Review: I was there... Hit: 5 Stars
My mom and dad thought this live concert at the Greek in Los Angeles would be a fun experience for two little teenage girls - sister and me - and I bless them for that decision every time I listen to this performance again. We loved it so much that my dad found a way to get a second set of tickets for this 8-day (I think it was 8 days) stand. I've owned this performance in every media form ever issued. 34 years later the music still transports me back to those glorious summer nights in the Griffith Park hills. I've seen and heard some incredible performances in my life, but this one is still tops. The re-mastered version just makes a great thing better.
Free Music Review: Nice 'n easy live Neil Hit: 5 Stars
When I bought "Neil Diamond-His 12 Greatest Hits on cassette back in 1989, I noticed there were two live versions of "Holly Holy" and "Sweet Caroline" found there. Needless to say, years later I figured out these songs were on the "Hot August Night" CD, so I went out and bought it. Here, you will find the early '70's Neil Diamond hits performed live in a relaxed style at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles. The two above mentioned songs are my favorite on this two-disc set. All the other songs are good, as well. If you want to buy only one Neil Diamond live CD, look no further than "Hot August Night".
Free Music Review: Hot August Night...a masterpiece! Hit: 5 Stars
Live albums don't get much better than this. Neil Diamond is amazing in this intense and dynamic performance which seem like yesterday...It was done 38 years ago, but it is so well recorded, and remastered at that, that you have what seems like a contemporary performance in hand. His stage presence and energy was born on this album and it was this that took him into superstardom. Musically and spiritually, this is his tour de force that has made me a fan for life! All of those who often mock his persona or achievement need to listen to see why this man is still around and filling stadiums and auditoriums all over the world...38 years later!
Free Music Review: Finally, The True Hot August Night Hit: 5 Stars
I own over 800 cds. Not to mention what I have on other formats. This 'musical experience' has always been my favorite. I have owed this awesome concert on every format, and up to the release of this Remastered CD, the best was still vinyl (MCA's previous CD release was very disappointing..sound wise and for lack of original album artwork). On August 29th 2000 I listened to this concert again for the first time...If you close your eyes the clarity of this CD will put you AT the Greek. For those of you who haven't heard this album, Neil Diamond fan or not, now is the time. Do yourself a favor...Experience it!!!
Free Music Review: great live disc Hit: 5 Stars
I think this is the first neil diamond cd i actually bought. when i was a kid, my dad liked (and still likes ) neil's music, and i thought it was wack. now that i am older and after a few listens of 'hot august night', i can honestly say i am a neil diamond fan. a lot of great tunes on here the band sounds great. i discovered a lot of songs i hadn't heard. before this i was only familiar with the big hits. standout tunes on this collection are : play me, canta libre, walk on water, solitary man, cryin in your pretzels, and red red wine (way cooler than ub40's version). pick this disc up, you won't be disappointed
