Free Music Review: Neil at his Peak

"I'm Glad You're Here With Me Tonight" was a major step up and out for Neil Diamond. He already had a large devoted base of fans who particularly liked his soulful and rock numbers. This album added to his legions with strong ballads in addition to his more familiar musical styles. There isn't a weak or forgetable track on the album, and with this release Neil expanded his range of fans significantly.
1. God Only Knows - In the umpteenth cover of this classic hit, Neil delivers as good a performance as anyone has ever sung ... a great start to the album
2. Let Me Take You in My Arms Again - Up tempo but still a love ballad. Even though not released as a hit single, you'll be able to sing to yourself even years after the last time you hear it.
3. Once in a While - A beautiful, tender love ballad.
4. Let the Little Boy Sing - A story song with an uplifting success story. Rockin' and fun.
5. I'm Glad You're Here With Me Tonight - Another strong love ballad. Soulful and romantic.
6. Lament in D Minor/ Dance of the Sabres - Not much in the way of lyrics, but fast paced and memorable.
7. Desirée - A soulful and rockin' remembrance in similar theme to "Oh What a Night".
8. As If - Back to a love ballad. Again, highly memorable and exquisitely performed.
9. You Don't Bring Me Flowers - The original of his now mega-famous duet number. Very strong as a solo.
10. Free Man in Paris - A bit different in theme from the rest of the songs. A bit of a bio song (not necessarily of Neil, but it reminds me a bit of "I Am, I Said" anyway.
I listened to this album over and over again when it came out,and never grew tired of it. We still pull it out from time to time.
