Free Music Review: Contemplative / Almost Dark/ Perfection

This reviewer believes that Serenade is Diamond's magnus opus of the 70's. You can argue with me all day long. All-Day-Long. Even Mr. Diamond may disagree. Even up against Jonathan Livingston Seagull, I still say this small collection of eight songs sums up the artist's greatest writing skills in almost every way. Neil Diamond always had the simple, God given talent for richness in lyric, presented with a variety of melodic backdrops that can "still" or "shake" the soul. Yes, I'm one of those... A life long Diamond Fan, so forgive my dribble. Don't get me wrong though. I wouldn't be found cranking this up at a beach party. But in its almost quiet way, it defines so much. Yearning seems at the heart of what makes Serenade work, but so is joy. Only one complaint, and maybe since my purchase of Serenade through Amazon five years ago this has already been accomplished...I'd like to hear this remastered to the fidelity it deserves.Free Music Review: Incredible Musical Artistry

I have been a Neil Diamond fan ever since the first time I heard Sweet Caroline in 1969. I've been to see Neil 10 times in concert. I have every album that he has ever put out including Home Before Dark. Serenade is one of his best collections of original songs. His voice was at it's best during the seventies. Rich, full and clear. His passion and talent shine brightly on all 8 tracks. Get this one...you'll be glad you did. Neil Diamond's 1974 "Serenade" is one lush,spirtual diamond of a album,containing such evergreens as "Longfellow Serenade","I've Been This Way Before","Lady Magdelene" and "Yes I Will" as well as overlooked gems as "Rosemary's Wine" and "The Gift Of Song".And considering its dirt-cheap price,its a steal,frankly!Free Music Review: Serenade is a thing of singular beauty

This album, written during his hiatus from performance and in the midst of deep introspection, is as beautiful a piece of music and songwriting as Neil has produced. I find his melodies engaging and the poetry he is reflecting on as he writes to be of a very high quality. This is an album to savor...Free Music Review: Only 8 Songs, But Each is a Gem

Serenade is a gem of an album in which Neil Diamond tells eight separate stories from my favorite on this album, "The Last Picasso" to "Lady Magdelane." The music is rich and this really is an album to relax to and let him serenade you.
