Free Music Notes for 7 Worlds Collide - Live At The St. JamesFree Music Review: Live at last Hit: 5 Stars
Neil Finn on studio records is always different, musically interesting and dramatic. Live, however, he is a revelation. His voice is so pure and clean and his music jumps to new heights. This live collection is but another example of Finn's wide-range of styles and tastes. There is an outstanding version of the Smith's "There is a Light" with Johnnie Marr on guitar. Finn and Marr's version is glorious. "Anytime, which is more sedate on "One Nil", is a rocking reflection on mortality and another great song. There is a wonderful variety to the song selection from the Enz "Take a Walk", with Eddie Vedder on vocals, to the Finn Brothers' "Paradise" and Angel's Heap". Each song, played by a variety of talented musicians, with Finn at the center, seems to be cherished as a celebration of a truly great songwriter. The musicians certainly recognize the talent of Mr. Finn, it's time for many others to the same.
Free Music Review: a good friend Hit: 5 Stars
Have you ever met someone for the first time and you feel instantly comfortable with them? Like you have know them all your life. Well, that's the feeling I get when I hear a Neil Finn song. For that matter and song from the entire Finn brother career (Split Enz, Crowded House, Etc.). While always being new and fresh, I am always how easily the songs flow through me and fit my mood. On 7 Worlds Neil brings some truly old friends, (Johnny Marr,Phil Selway and Ed O'Brien,Eddie Vedder, Lisa Germano, his son Liam, and ofcourse Tim) all adding to the warmth and fun of this live CD. Along with the Neil Finn songs we get some from our buddies, Johnny Marr's "Down on the corner," Lisa's "Paper Doll" and who can forget the dead-on Smith's classic "There is a light...." So buy this CD and hang out with some old buddies.
Free Music Review: An excellent live record. Hit: 5 Stars
Let me just say before I begin, that unlike many who give reviews for albums on here, I held no partiality to the work of Neil Finn before buying this album. But this album has definitely changed all that. Live albums are an interesting phenomenon. They can either really capture the energy of a live show, or just sound like a recording. 7 Worlds Collide does an excellent job of this. As I said, before buying this CD, I was not familiar with Neil Finn. I had heard of Crowded House, but really, even that stuff didn't do much for me. This CD is absolutely brilliant. Even Eddie Vedder, who I normally don't like shines on his lead vocal performances, particularly the Neil Finn penned "Take A Walk" and the Split Enz classic "I See Red."
Free Music Review: Brilliant! Hit: 5 Stars
I'm a huge fan of Neil's (as well as one of Crowded House, Split Enz and Tim Finn) and this live album is completely brilliant. From the incredible harmonies of Neil & Tim on "Angels Heap" to the beautiful rendition of The Smith's classic "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" to Eddie Vedder belting out "I See Red" with Tim from the Split Enz days, this album is excellent. The song mix is great, and the players perform very well together. Even if you're not a fan of Neil's (or Tim's, or Pearl Jam, or The Smiths - Johnny Marr) you can't help but love this live album. Neil is truly a one-of-a-kind singer/songwriter and this is the perfect showcase for his talents. A MUST HAVE!!!
Free Music Review: Something we all need... Hit: 5 Stars
Anything Finn being my main choice in music, I have to highly suggest this album. I am not usually a big fan of live albums. However, I knew that with Eddie Veddar and Johnny Marr - I had to hear what they would come up with. It was excellent. I loved Neil's cover of "There's a light" and Eddie Vedder's cover of "Take a Walk" and "I see red". This album just reminded me of how universal these songs are. That they can cross over into different music Genre. This also made me purchase the DVD. If you like the album, buy the DVD. It's got rehearsal stuff and interviews. Plus a few extra songs.
