Free Music Notes for Try Whistling ThisFree Music Review: Neil Finn CD Try Whistling This Hit: 5 StarsNeil Finn is a brilliant songwriter, singer and player.
Try Whistling This is a breath of fresh air. The songs will echo in your brain after you hear them.
As the title of one of the songs says "Addicted"
"She Will Have Her Way" worth the price of the CD alone
Free Music Review: Not 5 because Hit: 4 Stars..of its unevenness, and I know its supposed to be uneven hence the title, but anyway... where this album really scored for me was the emotional tie some of the songs had, even now Sinner will have me stop the car to listen to it, because of all of the emotions contained within that song, and how the different shades of light and dark on this album take me back to poignant memories of my own life at the time I bought this album. Perhaps only The Mutton Birds (another fine Kiwi band) have the ability to so readily mix music and emotion in me, and that is truly a wonderful gift. In payment, I named my son Finn after what Tim and Neil have brought to my life, and even at 3, he seems to have a musical gift. When he is old enough to understand, he can have my Tim and Neil CDs and I hope he gets as much from them as I have done.
Free Music Review: Perfection Hit: 5 StarsI agree with another member here. Crowded House are a lot of fun and highly enjoyable live. I have seen them up close and personal, years ago, in a small club. I also had the good fortune to seem them during the Woodface tour with Tim.
But this is in a whole different league...darker, more mature...and infinitely more interesting. Get the outstanding DVD 'Sessions at West 54th' for a great live performance of the major tunes from this disc.
Free Music Review: The meaning behind the title. Hit: 5 StarsThis is one of my all time favorites. Frontman for Crowded House, Neil Finn, is a New Zealand singer and songwriter. Although his breakthrough international hit was "I Got You" for the Split Enz, he is better known for his Crowded House hit, "Don't Dream It's Over." Finn took a break from Crowded House in 1996 to embark on a solo career. His debut solo release was Try Whistling This (1998). The opening chords of the second track, "Souvenir," made me pause in my tracks in my tracks the first time I heard them. (I was hiking across England at the time.) The voice was unmistakeable, but the instrumentals were unfamiliar. (I felt like I had wandered into a David Lynch movie.) Try Whistling This was a vast departure from Crowded House, further revealing Finn's true artistic genius. It was more experimental, moody, and atmospheric than his Crowded House material (and hence the meaning behind title). I have been hooked on this stunning album ever since first hearing the opening chords of "Souvenir." Other tracks include:
1. Last One Standing
2. Souvenir
3. King Tide
4. Try Whistling This
5. She Will Have Her Way
6. Sinner
7. Twisty Bass
8. Loose Tongue
9. Truth
10. Astro
11. Dream Date
12. Faster Than Light
13. Addicted

Free Music Review: Very disappointed! Hit: 1 StarsI searched for a CD that featured whistling and this CD was among the results. I listened to over half of the CD without hearing a single note of whistling ... and I assume there is none on the rest of the CD either.
Needless to say, I am quite disappointed!
