Free Music Notes for Try Whistling ThisFree Music Review: I very much liked Crowded House, but I ADORE this album...More than 5 stars! Hit: 5 Stars
Stumbled upon it when a local station played a song from it, the song hit my soul, I immediately bought it and I have played the CD to death. I mean, I am downloading it to itunes right now and noticing how somewhat worn it sounds. I will need a new copy.
Oh the melodies, so unique. The intricate rich arrangements, the fabulous musicians, the rhythmic beats that carry the melodies, Neil's incredibly emotional and beautiful voice, the deep lyrics that get better each time ... I can not go on enough about this beautiful incredibly artistic heartbreaking album. One of the best of all time. The man is a complete muscial genius, and now when I hear Crowded House I love THEM all the more. But this, this is truly an overlooked piece of musical perfection.
Free Music Review: Try Whistling This Hit: 5 Stars
Before you try to whistle this, or even judge this album, listen to it four times. It oozes into your conscious, has you thinking about the meaning behind the words. Unlike other reviews I think 'Sinner' is over rated, 'Addicted' on the other hand is very enticing. You can almost see the New Zealand country side in your mind, vivid with musical backdrop to the lyrics. 'Loose Tongue' & 'Truth' are better every time you listen to them (Perhaps these are Neil's lessons in morality!). Over all, every listener can idenitify with at least 1 song. Forget Crowed House, this album might be the best ever from the older brother Finn, less pop, more substance. If you like anything the Finn Brothers do, grab this & ENZSO & you will have two magnificent CDs.
Free Music Review: Discover New Zealand's Treasure Hit: 5 Stars
If you have not yet discovered Neil Finn, then stop wasting time. Finn first gained exposure when he joined big brother, Tim's Kiwi punk band, Split Enz. Neil went on to form Crowded House, which is one of the great underappreciated bands of the rock era. Finn is now solo, and creating complex melodies that would never have played in a band setting. Neil Finn has a McCartneyesque gift for melody and a Lennonesque gift for lyrics. This CD offers straightforward Beatles/Byrds melodies such as She Will Have Her Way, and also much more complex and nuanced works such as the title track. One of his most beautiful songs is Faster Than Light, which gets better the more I hear it. This is a quality CD which I constantly revisit and recommend highly.
Free Music Review: listening to this CD is like eating a bowl of soup...... Hit: 5 Stars
it's like having something hot and tasty; only after you've let it warm your stomach for a while, you realize how good it is. Only after listening to this CD for a while, does your appreciation grow for it! I got this CD when it first came out, listened to it for a while, then put it away. But then about a month later, I pulled it out again, only to marvel at the power of his voice and the emotions that he seems to be singing of. Seeing him, I was so STRUCK with the emotions he seems to be signing with. If <<I>> were the one he was singing of, I'd drop everything just so I could be with him. He is the most heart-felt singer that I have ever had the pleasure to hear, or see!
Free Music Review: Awesome Hit: 5 Stars
This is definitely an album worth getting. Neil's intoxicating melodies and vocals are back with full force. There's some really outstanding songwriting here, combining great melody, harmony, rhythm and lyrics. My favorite songs are "Faster Than Light" with its hauntingly beautiful harmonies, the upbeat "Last One Standing" and "She Will Have Her Way", and "Sinner", which is a sensual masterpiece. This album may take several listens to really get into, but after a while, you won't be able to get it out of your head. I highly recommend this album to fans of Neil Finn and Crowded House, and anyone else who wants some fresh, quality music to listen to.
