Free Music Notes for Try Whistling ThisFree Music Review: The melodic harmonies of Neil Finn are undeniable Hit: 5 Stars
"Try Whistling This" perfectly mixes the recognizable charm of Neil Finn's voice and his instrumental magic. I have listed to all of the Crowded House, Finn Brothers, and Split Enz CD's and by far this is the best. She Will Have Her Way is reminiscent of easy natured feel that was established during Crowded House, while Sinner leaves you with the eclectic magic of the Finn Brothers. Finn also explores new territory on the title track Try Whistling This. A classically woven track that combines complex instrument arrangement with extraordinary lyrics. This track is truly his finest.. I definitely recommend anyone to purchase "Try Whistling This"
Free Music Review: Neil is God Hit: 5 Stars
With this release Neil improves upon his reputation as undoubtedly one of the best singer/songwriters of his generatation and makes another attempt at lifting his music from the dark clouds of obscurity. If not for a blissfully unaware public and a network of worthless radio stations this recognition would have taken place much earlier in Neil's Crowded House days. For his fans this CD does not not disappoint, his intricate melodys and intelligent lyrics take the listener not just to a world of Neil's intention but a world all of their own. If you want to see if a CD can be worn out from being played continuously this is the one that will go first.
Free Music Review: this guy has me completely hooked Hit: 5 Stars
I've been a fan of Neil Finn's ever since his Split Enz, and then Crowded House, days. I have all of the SE & CH (also Tim Finn's and the Finn Brothers) CD's. 'Try Whistling This', Neil's first solo effort, is wonderful. I absolutely love it. Neil Finn is in a class all of his own. 'She Will Have Her Way' is quite a lighthearted (& almost, but not quite, a pop) ballad. My absolute favourite is 'Sinner', which is quite eerie, but intriguing sounding. I always seem to hear something different every time I listen to this CD, and it is never far away from my CD player. Looking forward to his new CD, and hope to get hold of his book at some stage.
Free Music Review: Neil, "You Are Magnificent!" Hit: 5 Stars
If you never buy another CD, buy this one. From the first note on "Last One Standing" to "Addicted", it's classic Neil Finn, and then some! The former Crowded House lead singer/ songwriter is at his pinnacle. I can't think of enough good things to say about this release. I have shared it with all my friends who loved Crowded House. Neil's voice still gives me goosebumps (oh, but in the best way). "Don't Dream It's Over" was my personal favorite forever, but now there are several on this CD that rate that highly on my list. He writes like most of us feel, but can't express.
Free Music Review: One of my favorite albums of all time Hit: 5 Stars
I became a Neil Finn fan late in the game, long after Crowded House had disbanded.
I'm a big CH fan now, but I am equally in love with this CD, which CH and non-CH fans alike should embrace equally. The lush opening strings of "Hand Me Down," the eerie, emotional darkness of "Sinner," the beautiful chords of "Faster Than Light," the unusual and quirky arrangements, all make this album an absolute classic.
Personally, I enjoyed this album much more than "One Nil"/"One All," which I think is more sappy and overproduced.
I wonder when he'll come out with his next one?
