Free Music Notes for Try Whistling ThisFree Music Review: The Embodiment of Creativity Hit: 5 Stars
As Neil Finn's solo debut, "Try Whistling This" is a great listen on a rainy night. It is amazing to me that he isn't more popular in the US. His history of songwriting has lifted him as one of the best. I never tire of his songs, and can listen from front-to-back without skipping even one tune. The songs on "TWT" are intense and defeated; soft and reasurring, all in one neat package. Listen for "Sinner" - great cynical lyrics and a terrific backbeat.
Free Music Review: Interesting at first, and only gets better. Hit: 5 Stars
The first time I listened to this album, I liked it, but wasn't particularly taken with it. A few more spins, and all of a sudden it's my favorite album of the year. Now, when I don't know what I want to listen to, I just put in "Try Whistling This," "Finn Brothers" (Neil and Tim's 1996 album), and "Recurring Dream: The Very Best of Crowded House," set the CD player to Random, and wonder why I ever listen to anything else.
Free Music Review: An uncommon talent, an unmissable album Hit: 5 Stars
Fact:- Neil Finn is Gods gift to ears. Its not just that he writes brilliant songs which can be simultaneously hummable and upsetting. But the guy has a voice to die for! Countless Split Enz albums, four with Crowded House, one with his brother and now his masterpiece. Every single track is a tribute to this mans' pure, unmistakable, incontrovertible class. Beware though, it requires several listens to appreciate. All classics do though, don't they?
Free Music Review: Perfection Hit: 5 Stars
I agree with another member here. Crowded House are a lot of fun and highly enjoyable live. I have seen them up close and personal, years ago, in a small club. I also had the good fortune to seem them during the Woodface tour with Tim.
But this is in a whole different league...darker, more mature...and infinitely more interesting. Get the outstanding DVD 'Sessions at West 54th' for a great live performance of the major tunes from this disc.
Free Music Review: The most listenable albumn I own! Hit: 5 Stars
First impressions of this albumn certainly do not do justice to incredible beauty, depth & sheer imaginative genius of the songs contained here. I have to agree that every single track is an absolute gem - a fact which will only beging to make it'self apparent after repeated listenings. This is the one albumn I can play over & over - back to back and simply NEVER get tired of hearing. Worth considerably more than it's weight in gold!
