Free Music Notes for Living with WarFree Music Review: Neil Young's most engaging album in years Hit: 5 Stars
I must admit to have grown somewhat bored of Neil Young's recorded output over the past couple of decades. However, Living With War does one thing that the former CDs didn't do. It is keeping me coming back to play it again and again. When this album was originally streamed on the net, I would return over and over to hear a particular song that was playing in my head. I always ended up playing the entire album.
It's hard to pinpoint exactly what has grabbed me. One thing is that Young's guitar, ragged as it still is, has so much more invention and melody than I've heard before. The guitar sparkles and rages, always fitting perfectly within the songs - the solos are never too much or too little, just perfect cues to the finale of the song. The other attribute is Neil's voice, overpowering the words so that you don't have to decipher them to understand the artists' POV. It's not so much rage, as has widely been described, but a feeling of hope and optimism. Yeah, I know that sounds weird, but it is true. This album is not only musical, not only does it rock, but it leaves me feeling hopeful and rejuvenated.
Free Music Review: A Very Important Album For These Dark Days We Are Living In ! Hit: 5 Stars
It is blood boiling funny to scan the reviews here at amazon.com and come across these scum of the earth rightwing nationalist scatterd throughout that are just clinging to there god-fearing narrow-minded opinions & views of hatred & in there gods name swearing that they stand for goodness in this world, never comeing to the conclusion that they are the ones stalling the evolutionary process of the human mind & most of those Richie rich's or redneck richies will never come to that conclusion. So I thank all of those numbskulls for fueling Neil Youngs fire & helping largely to inspire him to write this album wich may very well be his most important work to date(lyricly)& I will loudly sing along to every single song as you tightly cling on to G.W. Bush as he continues to ask for directions from the devil wearing a jesus mask that is sitting on his shoulder whispering in his ear. Me? I'll be hopeing that when & if these dark days ever end without the earth blowing up that there will be proof that our flag that originally stood for freedom is still there. BY THE WAY GREAT ALBUM NEIL!
Free Music Review: Excellent Hit: 5 Stars
People are judging this album solely based on their political leanings. I will not say a word about my political leanings in this review. This is a great album, because the songs are great. The lyrics, vocals, music, it all rocks. Neil has taken a serious risk with this album. If he had some (which I doubt he had many) conservative fans, he's probably lost them. Lots of people are probably threatening him or at the least very angry, but Neil says, right or wrong, what he believes and that's what America and freedom of speech is all about. Do I always agree with the ideas of Fyodor Dostoevsky... NO, but he's still among my favorite and undoubtedly among the greatest of authors in history; I will not say if I agree with Neil's ideas or not, but only that he delivers his message with such conviction, such power, and so little fear that one cannot help but love this album, if he/she listens objectively to it. THis time, the publicity may not help Neil, it may hurt him, but I just hope people prove me wrong and give the ole guy a chance; he's one of our last true artistic geniuses.
Free Music Review: An artistic triumph and breakthrough for Neil Young Hit: 5 Stars
This is a masterpiece, an artistic triumph, and, incredibly, even a breakthrough for Neil, as far as I'm concerned. All professional reviews (and most amateur ones) I've read or heard have absolutely undersold this album. I'm not hedging like the professional critics. I love this as much as I love "Ragged Glory" or any other classic Neil album, but it reminds me most of Ragged Glory. It deserves a place in Neil's cannon of great works, but that will be tough because of the iconic status since acquired by his classics. Neil is impassioned. His songwriting is inspired. The choral group and the trumpet add the perfect flourishes of majesty and urgency. The social and political commentary is suprisingly clever and witty, and only propels, rather than drags down, the rhthymic pace and tunefulness of the songs. Not an easy task. Sustaining this sublime melding of commentary, melody and rhythm over a whole album marks a musical breakthrough for Mr. Young. It is impossible to not be impressed by the listening experience provided by "Living with War." Buy it now and turn it up!
Free Music Review: Keep on Rockin' in the Free World Hit: 5 Stars
With the release of LIVING WITH WAR the prairie wind blowing through Neil Young's head has grown to a full-force gale.Neil is angry and frustrated with the misguided, deceptive policies of the current administration. He has managed to successfully channel these emotions through his trusty guitar"Old Black". Along with drums, bass and trumpet, LIVING WITH WAR is a runaway train on a broken down track. It's a one-way journey and there's no turning back. Conservatives are quick to dismiss LIVING WITH WAR as the rantings of a delusional aging hippie from the plains of Canada. However , many moderates such as myself will see Neil's current offering as a genuine expression of concern and love for a country he's called home for the past 35 plus years. While he has never legally become a citizen on paper, LIVING WITH WAR shows that in his heart he is as much an American as many who were born and raised here. LIVING WITH WAR is a patriotic collection of songs from a very American musician. Bravo Neil ! KEEP ON ROCKIN' IN THE FREE WORLD!!
