Free Music Notes for Living with WarFree Music Review: Worst Neil Album Ever Hit: 1 StarsDo yourself a favor and buy Chrome Dreams 2. This CD has one decent track and the rest were thrown together in a week. Is Neil screwing with his record company, again? I tried to sell mine to play it again records days after it came out and they already had too many. This will make a good collectors item, though. Because I guarantee it will be OOP and never see the light of day, again. I can't believe Dylan's not going to sue him for stealing one of his songs. Flags Of Freedom is an inferior rewrite Chimes Of Freedom. Some of the songs are just ripoffs of his own music I already own.
Free Music Review: (2.5 stars) More about the message than the music, if you "axe" me... Hit: 3 StarsYeah, when I first heard this I was like, "Oh, yes! Anti-Bush album! Come on, stick it to the man!". Needless to say, I don't like G.W., and I love how Neil's taking this opprotunity to rip him and his stupid oil war to tiny, tiny pieces. Here's what I don't like: Neil gets so wrapped up in the message that he forgets a fundamental part of making music is, um, actually MAKING music, rather than stealing the structure from Dylan's "Chimes of Freedom" ("Flags of Freedom") or his own classic Rust Never Sleeps-era sound ("Families"; "Roger and Out"; "Shock and Awe"). And if I hear one more over-the-top cover of "America the Beautiful", I will move to Canada, which is something that I want to do in the first place because they have universal healthcare and because Neil Young and Joni Mitchell are Canadians themselves. Of course, I'll probably hear overblown versions of "Oh, Canada" up there, so maybe not. And speaking of over the top, Neil goes all-out on the dull title track, with horns, strings, choirs, dulcimers, sitars, accordions, bagpipes, organs, orcarinas, flutes, organs, oboes, bassoons, saxophones, banjos, pedal steels, combs on paper, kazoos...
So, let's talk about the good stuff. Obvious pick as it may be, my favorite is "The Restless Consumer", a criticism of how George Bush told everyone to "Keep shopping" after the blatant disgraceful human rights violation 9/11. Because we all know Americans needed more crap over that. Seriously, you'd think we'd have more to worry about than buying stuff? But that led to an upswing in SUV's with little American flags on it, because it doesn't matter if you're pumping CO2 emissions into the atmosphere if you have an American flag bumper sticker on your car, because you're being PATRIOTIC about pollution. "Lookin' for a Leader" has insightful lyrics about how maybe old white men can't run countries after all; "Let's Impeach the President" has great, funny lyrics; and "After the Garden" has a great guitar part. And I love the message of this one! Just not all the music. Oh well. Whatever. Both Prairie Wind and Chrome Dreams II are better, though.
Free Music Review: This collection is all about what i am reading here...esp some low stars! LOL! Hit: 5 StarsGo, Neil. Ya sure hit some nerves on this one, and praise be to you for singing it out loud! People think you have to have gone to WAR's frontlines to see with open eyes the open wounds that War for War sake brings!
OMG, there sure are some clueless people who hide behind "Patriotism" with flag waving in hand without any clue as to what our leaders are truly making that a symbol for in the eyes of humanity! I've never been to WAR, lucked out with my number not coming up in the draft for 'NAM. Not a lot of my buddies, tho; and most were lost either in the conflict, the damage done to them whether physical or emotional, OR simply lost and disinherited when they came home. Poor souls! And all for what? The loss of the many for the profit of the few? My family line served in numerous wars, and my mother (including her service during Korean episode) told me she did not want that for me (and my sister) if it could at all be avoided. I just lucked out, and so did my sister (no draft for females).
I support our troops.....always have and hope to always do......and, if need be, i also support them by voicing my opinion if I feel that their lives are being manipulated, mis-used, or wasted for profit, imperialism and/or politically-blinded objectives that do no service to this country I love! If we are not making the world a better place, then it is time to question just what we are doing!
"Common sense in NOT all that common!" Disreali
"Give us this day our daily faith, but forgive us our beliefs." A. Huxley
So give it up for a man who makes most of his venue to make some noise!
Like it or not, NEIL is not alone (BIG TIME!!!)! And he realizes the fact that...
"Nine tenths of problems are man-made, one tenth is necessary." A. Huxley
Free Music Review: Fascism Comes To The U.S.A. Hit: 4 StarsWhile this may not be Neil Young's most entertaining CD, it is certainly one of his most important musical statements! Personally, I feel Neil was a little soft on critizing Bush and the war worshipping Republicans. Recall 1937 Nazi Germany when masses chanted "Sieg Heil, Sieg Heil", before Hitler, and then fast forward to the 2004 Rebuplican Convention when many guilible Americans chanted "USA, USA, USA". In both cases, it was a chant of ignorance and begging aggresion. The 2000 Election was stolen by Clown Bush and God knows Bush is not worshipping the true God of love! I'm in shock and awe of the many pregnant Iraqi women who were killed by American bombs! President Gore would never have sent the United States into war to benefit big oil and ruin the reputation of the U.S. around the world. If Abraham Lincoln was living, today, he would undoubltly be a Democrat, because his Grand Old Party (GOP) has become the party of Greed, Oblivion, Propaganda!
Free Music Review: How would you know Neil Hit: 1 Starsexcellent guitar player and songwriter, horrible soap box minion.
How would you know what it is like to live with war Neil, ever fight in one? When you do then call yourself an expert, because safely behind the walls of a studio spouting nothing does not make you an expert. You and Dylan, wuddu pair. Sing about old diners and empty roads because at least we can assume you might know something about that.
