Free Music Notes for Living with WarFree Music Review: Great Patriotic Expression Hit: 5 Stars
Living with war is a Patriotic masterpiece that shows a great love and respect for our country and the troops fighting in Iraq. Anyone in Iraq would welcome his call to end
the war and return our brave men home to the great USA. His rage on the album is directed at the one man that sent our troops into this hell hole, with phoney intelligence
and lack of reasonable thought. A war that the vast majority of the world does not support and has breed generations of people that hate our people and country.
To all the One Star, Red State, Conservative Right Puppets that were sent by
conservative radio to ambush this album...it didn't work. Notice how One Stars
come in waves through these reviews as the call to bash is mounted on the airwaves.
Tell us what song deserves one star. Is it "America the Beautiful", or the one about
"Families" or "Flags of Freedom" or the "Looking for a Leader" which crosses party lines begging for someone to step up and lead our country in a positive way.
"Keep politics out of music"...Ridiculous Statement as artist, poets, and song writers have always been the free thinking voice that governments fear when controlling a population and have been great contributors to Liberty and Freedom. The place politics should be removed from is the Church as worship should not be a dividing issue but one that unites the population.
Neil Young is a Great American born in Canada and has written a gem of an album
in 12 days...remarkable, but then again writing is easy when you have a lot to say.
Free Music Review: Already an American Classic Hit: 5 Stars
"Living With War" is much more than just some of the best and most on-target protest songs to hit the mainstream airwaves in years. Every song on the album is a tribute to America and, even moreso, to average Americans. From "Families" and "Flags of Freedom" to "Lookin' for a Leader", "Shock and Awe" and, yes, "Let's Impeach the President," each song emphasizes exactly what the current administration does not - putting the needs of the American public ahead of self-serving government hacks, corporate lobbyists, and military chickenhawks.
To say the least, this is one of Neil Young's harder, more aggressive albums in years, and that's good. After all, Neil is at his electric best when he's motivated, and for this collection of songs, he was HIGHLY motivated by the lies, deceit, corruption, and war mongering of the Bush Administration and its Republican accolytes in Congress.
Of course, the same rightwingers who lauded Young for his "Let's Roll" tribute to the victims of Flight 93 now lambast him for his Canadian birth. If anything, though, we should all be asking ourselves why it took a Canadian to write and perform such potent and meaningful protest songs on our behalf. And we should be thanking him, not questioning his right to speak out.
If you do enjoy "Living With War," as I do, I also recommend you check out the EP "Support the Truth" by the band Jim's Big Ego. On it, Jim is at least as angry as Neil, albeit a little funnier and more inclined to profanity, which is why you may not hear much of it on the radio.
Roger and out.
Free Music Review: 5 STARS GO TO THE LICKS... THEY F'IN SMOKE! Hit: 5 Stars
The album can be taken in a lot of ways. One may say that Neil Young is a little off his rock to be putting out this stuff that he's saying. He's Canadian for Christ sake! He's not even a U.S. citizen. Pppph.. whatever. It's just a f'in record everybody, chill out.
It's been a while since I purchased a Neil Young album that rocked out like this one does. That heavy grinding grunge that he's strayed away from for quite some time is back in fulll throttle. I mean CRUNCH. Yeah. Yeah.
Theres something a little strange about his "choir of 100 voices" no doubt. AND the words get a little questionable at times... HOWEVER, I really like the lyrics to THE RESTLESS CONSUMER, and the mix up of old fashioned marching music, the choir, and whatnot.... it's like the 2006 overture or something. This country is not the same as it was. The hippies have evolved... this country is on a new war path, and soon we are gonna start acting like Americans.. wait and see.
Neil Young has always waxed political in his own nutballish way. He can do it. All you people bitchin about what is being said have to admit that you don't even know what he's talking about half the time, so what? SO WHAT?
He wrote LETS ROLL in 2001 right? He wanted to fight like the rest of us.
He wrote LIVING WITH WAR now. It's getting old. We haven't forgotten anything... we just don't know whats goin on anymore. What can we really do? What have we really done? You know, people talk. Neil Young ain't no matyr here. He just wails a friken axe sometimes. I dig it.
Free Music Review: There's no mission accomplished here, just death to thousands Hit: 5 Stars
For an insight as to what this album is all about, I think Neil Young summed it up best in a CNN interview: "This is about exchanging ideas, it's about getting a message out, it's about empowering people by giving them a voice. I know not everyone believes what I say is what they think. But like I said before, red and blue is not black and white. We're all together. It's a record about unification....Living with war and having a conscience is what we're doing. If you have a conscience you can't go through your day without realizing what's going on, and questioning it, and going, 'is this right'? We have to be cognizant of the fact that we can make mistakes. That's part of freedom. We don't all have to believe what our president believes to be patriotic."
This album is both healing and cathartic, and a tremendous gift to all of us who are living with war every day. For me, personally, it serves as a very pure and creative articulation for a lot of feelings I couldn't put into words --- mostly feelings of frustration, anger, and disillusionment. The best expression is probably "Shock And Awe", but the entire album flows beautifully, with each song telling its own unique story. People should be aware that this isn't an entire album dedicated to bashing Bush, but rather one artist's interpretation of the whole experience of living with war. Thank you so much, Neil, for exchanging your ideas, getting your message out, and empowering us with your voice.
Free Music Review: A Well deserved political broadside! Hit: 5 Stars
Why has it taken a 60 year old Canuck to put into perspective the facts of this heinous war. War in Afganistan and Iraq are NOT about keeping America free. This war is about Bush and Rumsfeld and Cheney's ego. As the total of dead US Military sons and daughters creep closer to the total of dead Americans who we're supposedly avenging, Young shoots a volley across the broadside of this conservative ship that is the current US government. Young angerly, fearlessly paints a picture of America that is at once Proud and Tall and alternately bleeding to death due to its inner divisivness. All problems, in Neils eyes, are caused by "Dumbya" (please feel free to quote my personal Bush nickname)and all solutions need to come from American Patriots willing to stand up to the small mindness of the dwindling goose stepping, morally corrupt followers of this current presidential regime. Liberal, Conservative, Independent, Green, Libertarian...we must all unite to oust this law breaking, lying and racist group of unAmericans who currently inhabit one of the World's most hallowed halls, The White House.
Oh, and by the way, Neal really turns up the volume of his trusty axe!
God Bless America! God Bless Neil! God Bless all TRUE AMERICAN PATRIOTS! To quote another terrific song writer, Steve Earle, "The Revolution Starts NOW!" Lets elect someone new!! Illinois's beloved Senator Obama, are you listening?
