Free Music Review: THE REVOLUTION IS NIGH! KEEP YOUR POWDER DRY!
Hit: 5 Stars

Since most of us believe that freedom of speech is a right that we are born with, no matter where we live, what's does it matter in what country Neil Young does his spouting off? To the reviewer from Warroad (now that sounds like a peaceful town to live in) Minnesota, Neil's 3 children and wife are all US citizens, would you like him to work in another country without his family? If our elected leaders would do their jobs and not make stupid mistakes, artists who care wouldn't have any protesting to do! Oh, and Neil was a supporter of Ronald Reagan to the dismay of his colleagues at the time. So Neil isn't just a GOP basher. And for the album, I'm looking forward to hearing it. And what's Barry Manilow saying about things these days, and Neil Diamond? And Paul McCartney? And Steve Earle? And Danu? And David Gray? And we all thought the [...] was over when Nixon resigned, little did we know that 30 years later it would be many times worse. Wait'll we hear whose phone calls the NSA has really been listening to. Wake up, Dummies! Quit watching vehicles drive in circles as fast as they can! Wasting fuel! Quit excercising your thumbs playing video games! Get out in the street! Talk to your neighbors! Get fired up! THE [...]HAS GOT TO STOP! THE REVOLUTION IS COMING! BE READY! And as for the album, I'm looking forward to hearing it.

Free Music Review: Neil Young Rocks Again With A Message
Hit: 5 Stars

I have always enjoyed the Neil Young/Crazy Horse Rock and Roll albums and concerts. Being a heavy metal fan I have found that Neil Young and company can pound out the music with the best of them when it suits him. Even though Crazy Horse isn't featured on this CD the band he put together does a great job suppling the same sound I like so much. Add to that he has been able to put to music what millions of people have come to realize about this administration and the war in Iraq, this is a very rare album that you not only enjoy for the music but the message that is covering one of the biggest headlines we read and hear on the news daily. Just as the Vietnam conflict is still a topic of discussion almost 40 years later, this involvement in Iraq that could go on for several more years with who knows what final results. If that is the case Neil Young has managed to put out a statement that forever remind us of the cost of listening to some politician and letting him drag us into what is nothing more than his own private little conflict with nobody with anything to gain but his own small circle of friends and supporters. It has been far to long since anybody has had the guts or desire to speak out on such a controversial issue as Neil has done with Living With War. It will definitly be getting a regular rotation of play on my CD player.

Free Music Review: Neil Youngs Best
Hit: 5 Stars

I've been following Neil Young since I saw him play live in Buffalo Springfield sometime in the 60's. I am a guitarist, songwriter, and among my friends, we're not all Neil Young fans. As a matter of fact, some can't stand him.

Neil Young is just that.. You love him or hate him. His sound consist of three mainstays: a distorted slightly out-of-tune guitar, a wavering near falsetto vocal that often misses its mark, and a crude mix. Somehow, to us fans, that works and there is a raw energy behind his music.

Living with War captured everything I like about Neil Young, and also reminded me how great of a songwriter he is. I have probably only listened to the CD about 5 times, but its strong, powerful, will connect with the emotions on both sides.

My favorite track is Living with War. It melody and structure brings to me a visual image of an evangelic church service with the congregation waving their arms in the air to the Powerpoint lyrics, but instead of singing, "I'm Living with Love", they're singing "I'm living with War". I think its a classic example of underlying subtle irony that Neil likes to occasionally sneak into his songs.

This is a very important release that will be talked about for a long.

all the one star reviews here....ignore 'em. these people have not even listened to the record. they have heard on faux news that there is a song called "let's impeach the president", and they have come out of the woodwork to blast neil for being "unamerican", for being "a canadian", for being a "stoner hippie". well, you know what? as a canadian, he has every right to say what he feels. the impact of america's power is not just felt on americans. it is worldwide. and, lest we forget, neil has been here for 2/3 of his long life, paying taxes and enjoying the american dream. except, lately, it's more like a living nightmare.

the point is, if the one star reviewers actually listened to the album, they'd be in deep trouble. it's actually quite patriotic (check out "families" and "flags of freedom" and...well, the whole record actually). and the album is tuneful, melodic, and absolutely rocks. neil's guitar playing is jaw dropping (he said in a recent interview that the guitar was "playing itself....spooky). the amazon reviewer was absolutely correct when they said that you can disagree with the politics, but you can't argue that this is top notch rock and roll from a legend. byy this record if you are not afraid.

Free Music Review: It's about the Guitar 1st, Dubya 2nd
Hit: 5 Stars

I just want to say that this record is about the guitars... Neil Youngs sonic fuzz blast sounds as urgent as the material he covers.

Rarely does an artist combine social commentary with extrodinary songwriting then deliver it with soulful passion... Here Neil does just that!

Normally, I stay away from political records... I like my rock Ramones style... Loud, discordant and fueled by fun (girls, cars and booze). I don't think there has been an artist whose political insight has mattered since the late D. Boon of the Minuteman (Well, Bad Religion does a good job too). But then, like I say, I don't generally listen to political music.

But here the sense of urgency is palpable. As obvious as the lyrics are at times, Neil does manage restraint while letting the soaring melodies and warm tones of the guitars, back up singers and occasionally a trumpet carry the spirit of the music.

I could write more but I'm sure the other reviews already cover whatever I might add... Instead I'm loading up my iPod Shuffle and lacing up my running shoes - I'm going to run 15 miles listening to this record. Enough said.
