Free Music Review: Don't Think Twice, It'a Alright
Hit: 5 Stars

The DVD is not the same as the CD, as explained in the notes it is much better resolution. It's better than the old system where they released the DVD-Audio or Super Audio CD such that listeners had no ability to upload material into iTunes. This way you have the best of both worlds: the CD for uploading and the DVD-A for better sound quality. Geez with the quality of this kind of performance I for one am quite grateful.

The performance is a dream come true. Plenty of Springfield songs, "Birds," "The Old Laughing Lady" (great guitar work), beautiful humming on songs like "Broken Arrown, "Clancy," and "The Loner" (great vocalized solo where the strings are on the record). The songs from Young's first album are better than you may have realized. This release and Live At The Riverboat are essential Neil. His voice never sounded better.

Free Music Review: Neil What can you say
Hit: 5 Stars

Neil Young has always been one of my all time favorite performers. I have every album he has ever put out including unofficial CDs and DVDs except for the greatest hits stuff ( I don't really know what that means)I go to see him every time he comes around. This album is a really cool album because it covers neil at an interesting time in his career. He just left Buffalo Springfield and just started to embark on a solo career. What I really like about this album is the ongoing conversation that he has going with his audience. It almost seems like their siting in his living room. I particularly like the point where he states that he thinks its time for a discussion then asks if anyone wants to start. Neil was definitely on a roll having fun and completely unrehearsed. This album is a lot of fun to listen to.

Free Music Review: the man now and then
Hit: 5 Stars

Neil Young continually amazes and this recent release of archived material is spectacular. Of course long time fans have wondered about this concert for many years but the quality and the intimate nature give a rare insight into this talented man. Having had the privalege to see his most recent tour i can tell you he is better at age 63. The release of sugar mountain at canterbury house gives that rare glimpse at then and now and who he is. The only weird thing about this package is the DVD which is the cover still photo with snow moving across the screen... that's it. Unneccessary IMO. However, that is minor, this is a must have for any music fan because it spans the years and provides fresh perspective not just for neil young but also the historical/cultural aspects as well. Buy it!

Just bought the CD. The show is great, great sound, and funny banter between the songs. A previous reviewer mentioned a lot of tape hiss. While there is a certain "warmth" to the recording, it is in no way a distraction. Honestly, it is barely audible. The DVD is a disappointment, I have to admit. I was expecting some concert footage, and after hearing the between song banter (especially when Neil talks about working at a bookstore and being hopped up on pills) really wish I could see his face as he talks to the audience. However, the DVD does have an extended preview for the archives, which you can't help but be excited about, even if you are upset about the price/format issue. Anyways, this is a great CD, and worth the dough. I would go so far as to say it is essential.

Free Music Review: Snapshot of a legend
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a rare recording of one of the greatest songwriters of all time. The mood at Canterbury House is personal and intimate. Musically, this is a chance to hear the master early in his career; his guitar sounds fantastic and his voice is clear and crisp. I'm from the Detroit/Ann Arbor area so it's extra special to me (Neil recalls writing "The Old Laughing Lady" on a napkin "in true folk tradition" while at the White Tower restaurant in Detroit; he also shares his "Detroit experience" in the wee hours after leaving the restaurant). As other reviews have noted, if you are a long time Neil Young fan, this is a must have. If you don't know his music, this is a must have so you can be introduced to the musical genius that many have loved for so many years.
