Free Music Review: What a Gift! Priceless! Let's Not Hide a Thing
Hit: 5 Stars

I love the DVD portion of this set. Yes, you can hear the hiss of the tape, but I want to hear that instead of the digitized packets we get on CD format. This combines many gifts. First, this reveals something we would have otherwise never heard; second, it reveals as much of the music and moment as reasonable with the DVD format, and lastly the music is raw, new and just awesome. What's more it is Neil all the way. Natural and real. This is how nature would have made it. Let the music come through without standing in the way. What is more...this costs like a CD! This makes me want to buy music again instead of being tempted to take a peek at it by downloading it. The depth is much to good to give up.

Free Music Review: Unbelieveable
Hit: 5 Stars

This is one of the best live recordings by any artist I have heard. Some have made minor complaints about backroud hiss. They are minor and are barely audible during performances. The quality is great. I would recommend to anyone even none Young fans. Never knew he had such a sence of humor. His communication with the audience is special. His warmth and humor is evident throughout the performance. Now my one complaint along with others. The DVD is a waste. After hearing his communication with the audience I also wanted to see some of it. It is just an advertisement for his upcomming Archives Package. No actual footage of the concert. That being said, buy it for the CD. You will not be disappointed.

Free Music Review: Good stuff
Hit: 5 Stars

This is awfully good. I don't mind a bit of tape hiss (1968!), and I didn't buy it because it has video footage (it doesn't). It's a collection of songs that I like in a time between Buffalo Springfield and Crazy Horse. Other than that, what is there say besides that Neil was nervous, the presentation was intimate (even now, that comes across), the songs were fresh, and he's very funny in-between songs. I was lucky enough to see Buffalo Springfield at the Fillmore, I was lucky enough to see the solo show in 1971 (I'm old), and I'm lucky enough to have lived long enough to have the chance to buy and listen to this. If you like him, buy this.

Free Music Review: Rough Edges Sets Neil Apart from the Others
Hit: 5 Stars

Sure it has rough edges, but one should consider this was his first trial solo tour. The extra-choppy guitar work was surprising, yet it stands as an excellent testimony of how far Neil has come in his work. Yes, there is some silly banter between songs. But, this is a gold mine for those who's lives were lifted by Neil Young's early music. Sugar Mountain, the title song, was a near perfect performance and showed the brillance that Neil was about to deliver to us through his music. My life was never the same after my brother took me to my first Neil Young live show in 1973 at age of 13. Hooked for life. Can't wait for The Archives set!

Free Music Review: Neil debuts his first solo record to small audience
Hit: 5 Stars

I thought the sound was quite warm and that didn't surprise me much because an edited "Sugar Mountain" had long ago been a B-side (for Heart of Gold I think) and later had been included with Decade. Neil's commentary is hilarious. He was renowned for his acerbic humor way back when and it comes through very well in this performance. Most of the new songs are performed with care and inspiration. I'm not crazy about "Last Trip to Tulsa" but he didn't perform it after this period. This is just as good as the other two recent live releases (Massey & the Fillmore).
