No it's not as great as Aeroplane, which I would vote as certainly being one of the 4 or 5 best indie-pop albums ever made and definitely one of the best of the 90's. If you don't like this album, you are not a NMH fan. Simple as that. The lyrics are beautiful (esp on Naomi, one of the great unknown love songs of all time) and the music can get a bit repetitive and is not as constantly mind-boggling and gorgeous as Aeroplane, is still great. Jeff Magnum is a genius and his gift for composing melodies and the way he sings the songs...I can't go on enough. If you are NMH fan you already have this and love it, but if you are a newbie definitely start with Aeroplane and get this one next.Free Music Review: I Want to Marry This Album

You can't compare the two Neutral Milk Hotel Albums. Really you just can't. Each is a totally different being. So I don't want to say this is a better album then Over the Sea because I don't think it is and I also don't think it's not as good in any way either. I don't think you can really say what album is better. For myself personally this one does it for me more. There is something so raw and original about this album that I don't know what to do with myself when I hear it. Words seem stupid when trying to describe this so I'm going to stop here and just say that this is a piece of art worthy of the attention of all.Free Music Review: Mind-blowing.

4. Even though this review is very informal, know this... this is a hardcore AMAZING musical accomplishment. Read number one and proceed to buy this CD and aeroplane over the sea to listen to the sounds that no one can categorize, so I'm not gunna try. if you're willing to give something new a listen, make it NMH today!

Wow. What to say about this album? It's truly a wonderful disc, containing some of the most beautiful songs I've heard. From the get go you can tell it's going to be a thought provoking ride. The one standout track I have to mention is Naomi. It is so achingly beautiful that I would buy the CD explicitly because of it. Some awesome stuff here, if you've come here because of In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, then by ALL MEANS get this CD. It's amazing. You won't regret it.Free Music Review: sad

This is an essential album. While it may not reach the same thematic levels of Aeroplane, this CD contains some of Jeff's best tunes (Where You'll Find Me Now, Naomi), and the most poignant and sad lyrics you're ever likely to hear (Gardenhead, You've Passed). Rob Schneider's musical contributions are good but don't compare to those on Aeroplane, despite this record featuring more instrumentation. A powerful record you will never forget.
