Even though I hate the phrase, I think the sentiment "hauntingly beautiful" applies to this if it applies to any indie music at all. I imagine Hotel surprised themselves/himself with this album like a sculptor who throws up his stomach and marvels at its raw and delicate loveliness. Art as true communion. This album is good. If you like the beauty of AEROPLANE, then you may be disappointed. But this is my 6th favorite album. the emotion isn't necessarily more or less raw, it just isn't wrapped as nice. the instrumentals are more droning noisejams than the ones on aeroplane. music at finest no doubt, the creative originality of jeff mangum is uncomparable to any artist today, his vocals are comparable to a bob dylan mixed with, more of a physcodelic up beat.
