Free Music Review: Nothing But Fun - But Not for the Timid Fan
Hit: 4 Stars

If you're looking for some over-produced rock concert with top 10 hits, go buy Flashpoint or some other modern Stones concert CD. This CD is for the pure Keith and Ronnie fans, who can appreciate the joys of a bunch of guys getting hammered on bourbon, jumping on stage and playing their hearts out.

Listenting to this CD, at times you have to wonder how drunk they are and how is it they are still standing. When Ronnie opens the show it appears obvious these guys have been drinking for a while, but its pure fun and a complete pleasure to listen to.

I've owned the bootleg for many years, but the quality on this release is much better! I highly recommend this CD for big fans of Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards!!!

Free Music Review: I was buried alive that nite!
Hit: 4 Stars

Besides the vocals being somewhat rough, and the music a little raw,the show was great that nite,I realy enjoyed hearing this music from that show, just because I was there.

Free Music Review: If you saw a New Barbarians show, you'll probably like this
Hit: 3 Stars

First of all, this album is not for every Stones/Faces fan or the faint of heart. To say the vocals are rough is an understatement. Much as I love Ronnie Wood as a guitarist, his voice is another matter. And sorry Keith, you're also one of the best, but vocally, not much help. But as a live event, the shows on this tour were highly enjoyable. Saw them in Pittsburgh within days of the Maryland show captured here, and have many fond memories. The band was excellent; everybody seemed very relaxed and having a good time. It hardly mattered that the singing was bad. There was a Faces' kind of atmosphere with the emphasis on rocking, not perfectionism. Kind of hit or miss, maybe, but overall it satisfied. Although it doesn't compare to the live experience, the album brings back fond memories, and has its finer moments. Stanley Clarke's solo on the second disc is phenomenal, and when he sings in a Dylan-mode as on Seven Days, Ronnie is actually quite effective. Unfortunately, he doesn't fare quite so well in an R&B style. Overall, if you can hack the shortcomings, this album is a good souvenir of a fun little tour.

Free Music Review: brings back memories
Hit: 3 Stars

OK, I confess, I don't have this CD... yet. I live in a cave so I had not heard this was issued on a real CD label, not bootleg. The occasion of Return to Forever (ie Stanley Clarke) doing a reunion tour this summmer got me to thinking of my old fusion days.....

I saw the New Barbarians in Atlanta GA at the old Omni. One other reviewer states the shows were half-filled. Not so in Atlanta. Sold out to the top row in the back. It was the first (and only) show for which I camped out overnight for tickets. Me and my roommate got floor seats about 1/2 way back. Wild show. We stood on our chairs the whole time. The show was opened by Piano Red, a very elderly, blind, African-american blues musician who played solo piano, and was rumored to be close to Jagger. So logically it was assumed Mick would be there. Guess that was part of the hype. No Mick. Who needed him anyways?

The highlight of the show was Clarke's wicked blistering bass solo. All 17,000 there were just wound up into a frenzy after that. Hope this CD captures that.

I have the bootleg LP which is pretty crappy.

Free Music Review: A glorious trainwreck
Hit: 3 Stars

This review is tough express. I'm not sure of the source tape quality etc
so I have heard better mixes and releases of far better quality. Ronnie and Keith did sound ripped, but it was a time of rock and roll excess. Are there missed notes and chords, is it sloppy? YES.
But man it rocks it has a certain dirty groove and energy that will make you turn up the volume and stomp.
Pure rock and roll sometimes is not pretty and this is a fine example.
If you love your rock down and dirty or better stated "solid garage rock" This will put a smile on your face. If you love perfection all the way around pass on it. I love the music but to keep it real I give it 3 stars for the flaws....Yes it's glorious trainwreck.
