Free Music Notes for New Kids on the Block - Greatest Hits

Free Music Review: Very dynamite album!
Hit: 5 Stars

I liked this album! Long overdue when it came out in 1999! I thought the New Kids on the Block got better as they did each album! It was a growth pattern the way I see it. From Joey McIntyre's high falsetto on "Please Don't Go Girl" to the more challenging "Step By Step", they were a hitmaking force. Donnie Wahlberg's outgoing style and Jordan Knight's famous falsettos along with the other members made them a hot group. Their different personalities were what I liked about them. I didn't get all the advertising and T-shirts--I was more into their music. I think that it has really benefited their more current careers, with Jordan Knight still performing, Joey McIntyre with his solo career, Donnie's acting, Danny Wood's solo career, and Jon Knight's own thing too. They set the tone to what Backstreet and NSYNC are doing now with the five-member concept. I still like Please, I'll Be Loving You, This One's For the Children, Hangin' Tough, If You Go Away, Valentine Girl, Call It What You Want and others. Most music historians don't want to give this group credit. I think they were a superb group for its time and that they should play their old hits more on the radio stations. This album just reflects on that grand period where they dominated charts, had sold out tours and just had fun doing it!

Free Music Review: A 16 yr. old fan!
Hit: 5 Stars

Being only 16 yrs. old i don't remember much of the days when the new kids were big but i can imagine that it was about the same as when bsb and nsync were huge. I may have to say that this is one of my fave albums ever. I got it when i first became a nkotb fan back in 2000 and i listened to it non-stop every single day for the next couple of years. I don't listen to the album that much anymore but i do still love nkotb very much!

Free Music Review: Still makes me sing and dance
Hit: 5 Stars

You know, I've grown up a great deal since my room was covered in New Kids posters and paraphanilia...and my taste in music has changed quite a bit. Somehow I still enjoy this music. Whether that be because it was the music of my childhood or because it's pure pop (catchy, dancy, cheesy, but you still listen, and enjoy it despite yourself...) That is the epitomy of this album, liking it despite yourself and your current musical tastes. I highly reccomend buying this album, even if you only listen when you're by yourself in the car!

Free Music Review: Hangin' Tough Fool, New Kid style
Hit: 5 Stars

What up peeps. This be them, the originators, the instigators, the vastly imitated, but never replicated New Kids on da Block. Yo word, their fab style hip hop brand have more flava than a candy store and pumps more bass than the Ace.

Growing up in the mean suburbs of Wisconsin I learned quick that to 'hang', you had to 'hang tough'. I smoked a cigarette in high school and kissed a girl for the first time just TWO WEEKS after i graduated. I ran around with a pretty tough gang at the time. We would walk into McDonald's and order nothing but fries. Then we would sit in the 'bad boy booth' for hours, even after our fries were eaten. You didn't mess with us on our 'turf'. We ruled the 'hood'. The New Kids showed a generation of bad boys how to build a rep and rebel against society in a non-threatning way without fear of a police record. That's the way it was in '89, that's the way it is now. I'll see you at McDonald's on the flip side G.

Free Music Review: Ahh, the New Kids...
Hit: 4 Stars

Well, 4 stars for the CD, really because of the fact that it is a very good greatest hits comp. It wouldn't be fair to give it a bad rating, after all, if you DON'T like the music, why the hell would you have bought the CD? As for the NKOTB, I can't quite place my feelings about them. I was around 9 years old when they hit their prime, and my sister was the one who was truly gaga (sleeping bag, sports mugs, even a "Happy Birthday" tape) I had both tapes, (Hangin' Tough and Step-by-Step) and they were actually the second and third tapes, respectively, that I ever owned (MC Hammer's U Can't Touch This being the first) Anyways, my feelings are mixed On the one hand, I have my childhood memories of this kind of stuff- which are obviously "rosy" like everyone else's. On the other hand, I have my adult feelings on this kind of pop-music stuff in its current incarnations, as being utter trash. But you know, I feel OK, sort of like I'm young and carefree again, when I listen to it. And I do respect the accomplishments of most of the group members, particularly the ones with real talent. Bottom line, while this isn't the kind of music I listen to in 99% of my daily (and nightly) existence, it has still earned its place in my collection, simply by sheer power of being good fodder in my "guilty pleasures" music grouping- (see also Milli Vanilli, ABBA etc. etc.) As hokey as this kind of stuff gets, I can't deny the fact that it is nonetheless the music of my life- in whatever capacity...
