Free Music Review: Almost as good as the real thing

A lot of people tend to marginalize the "Two York Dolls" because Thunders, Nolan and Kane are no longer in the band (they couldn't make it, they're all dead). While I understand their thinking, they are denying themselves a trainload of great music. I saw the new version of the Dolls on their first tour back in 2006 and was blown away by how great they were. Johansen is still a compelling and very funny frontman and the band rocks like a mother. This CD was recorded a year later and sounds just as good, with the band walking that thin line between sloppy and charmingly shambolic. Make no mistake, this is a much tighter band than the original Dolls ever were, but the power and excitment is still intact. Yeah, I miss Johnny Thunders too, but this should not be ignored just because it lacks some kind of nostalgic element. The Dolls are alive and well and this proves it.
