A lot of people tend to marginalize the "Two York Dolls" because Thunders, Nolan and Kane are no longer in the band (they couldn't make it, they're all dead). While I understand their thinking, they are denying themselves a trainload of great music. I saw the new version of the Dolls on their first tour back in 2006 and was blown away by how great they were. Johansen is still a compelling and very funny frontman and the band rocks like a mother. This CD was recorded a year later and sounds just as good, with the band walking that thin line between sloppy and charmingly shambolic. Make no mistake, this is a much tighter band than the original Dolls ever were, but the power and excitment is still intact. Yeah, I miss Johnny Thunders too, but this should not be ignored just because it lacks some kind of nostalgic element. This is the new "Dolls". With only Sylvain and David still alive from the original band they recruited some of the most compatible musicians to keep the spirit of the 70's New York Dolls alive.
David's voice sounds a little strained at times, but his harp playing is incredible, in keeping with the spirit of the Dolls some of the key changes jar a little, but they were always meant to. This cd represents the natural evolution of The New York Dolls....... if you're a fan, get it and cherish it....

The reunited Dolls were great out of the box but they are really hitting hard now. This CD opens with a killer version of Babylon, the best Babylon I have ever heard.
I notice that the limited pressing sold out quick but the used items are available very cheap. Get it while you still can. This one just roars.
Did I mention that Babylon rocks really, really, extra-especially hard?

All songs on this cd are much better than the first reunion live cd and all the old live recordings. My major complaint is the length of the cd and the fact that there only 2 songs from their fantastic studio reunion cd. The dolls have never sounded better.
