Free Music Notes for New York DollsFree Music Review: One of the best albums ever made Hit: 5 Stars
I remember as a 17 year old I bought this because of the cover to shock the parents. Men dressed liked girls with make up? I liked some of the songs. Now a few years later (ha ha) this is the one album I return to over and over to listen to when I want to feel what rock should be. Cannot get enough. Set me off on a quest to build a doll collection. The raw energy, the attitude, the down right dirty in your face punk is the epitome of what rock should be. I love it. You will too. Buy this album. It will not disappoint.
Free Music Review: Rock 'n' Roll Hit: 5 Stars
This is the pinnacle of the seedy little backroom art form known as rock'n'roll. The first 15 seconds of "Personality Crisis" give you everything you need to know - a jet-engine guitar intro, a piano roll, and an unintelligible scream followed by "yeah-yeah-yeah, no, no, no, no-no-no, no!" It's the Stones, Jerry Lee and Little Richard rocketed to the moon in a blinding flashpot explosion. If you're old enough to be shopping online and don't own this already, you're a lost cause anyway.
Free Music Review: absolute classic Hit: 5 Stars
This album is equal parts David Bowie and Ramones; it shows that glam rock and punk were never adversarial forces but simply two sides of the same coin. "Personality Crisis" is classic Jerry Lee Lewis rock'n'roll transformed into vibrant, identity-confused proto-punk. The debauched gender-bending works with the full-on energy of the music to create a hedonistic paradise. This unbelievable record crushes its competition; one of the best underground records of the '70s.
Free Music Review: new york dolls (y'all) 5 Stars
i just think that in all my years as a human...i need them now...and i need a jet black dusty wig to put on and shake,
and i need to start performing on a stage somewhere...now.
i can play these songs and only listen to this mad voice. and i can play these songs and listen to a screaming guitar made from my left rib.
i can't win....i am forever lost to the new york dolls....y'all.
if you don't want to be lost don't buy this album.
Free Music Review: raw and beautiful and full of energy Hit: 5 Stars
This is one of my favorite albums of all time. It is so raw and beautiful and full of energy and emotion and no one plays the guitar like Johnny Thunders... I've gone through so many copies of this recording, the cassettes wore out, the vinyl is thrashed and now the CD needs replacement. That's a lot of listening and it's still not enough. From start to finish this record is great - no filler or throwaway songs to speak of. Just full on rock and roll at it's finest.
