Free Music Review: Heavy on Blues and Sleaze Rock
Hit: 5 Stars

You may remember the New York Dolls from many years ago when the band paved the way in the early pop/glam/punk movement. They broke up after only two proper albums. However, they've influenced many since then, so the fact that they now have a comeback album is close to a miracle. This record has more ballads like "Maimed Happiness" and "I Ain't Got Nothin'," but the better parts of the album are when original Dolls David Johansen and Syl Sylvain sound like their old selves. "Fishnets and Cigarettes" and "Dance Like a Monkey" are filled with their signature sleaze and off-the wall antics. Everywhere else the revamped lineup possesses a sound heavy on blues and sleaze rock. It even features the vocals of Michael Stipe from R.E.M. on "Dancing on the Lip of a Volcano." This is a terrific record, just terrific.

Free Music Review: Best cd of the year!!!!! New York Dolls Rock!!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

The New York Dolls 1st album since 1974's Too Much Too Soon is well worth the 32 year wait! This is Rock and Roll the way it should be. Plenty of Rockers and some great ballads. Not a bad song on this cd at all!! My favs so far are Dance Like a Monkey and Fishnets and cigarettes. The bonus track seventeen rocks!! every song on this cd is just Awesome! If you are a Dolls Fan old or new or just love good Rock and Roll this cd is for you. Buy this cd today!!!

The DVD is also great to be able to see the band create this masterpiece. I thought Jack Douglas did a awesome job producing and it was good to see Iggy Pop as a guest artist. The Dolls are in top form . Keep up the good work New York Dolls. I look forward to seeing you in concert again and to hear the next cd.

Free Music Review: An Australian discovers the Dolls
Hit: 5 Stars

Having recently taken an interest in the New York scene and the wonderful music that has fermented there over the past 30 years or so it was inevitable that I look closer at the "Dolls" I love every track on this cd and regard it a must have along with the 2 original Dolls albums. David Johansen is a great talent with his Dolls persona and the Buster Poindexter phase. Such depth of talent lasts and grows. This cd, 30 years after their first releases is missing 3 of the original band but is not diminished by that although it would be just wonderful to have had Johnny Thunders still with us. This oustanding piece of work is a credit to David and Syl who have created a wonderful work that stands out in these days of impoverished commercial with no roots.

Free Music Review: This band really swings...
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is the best of the year. Maybe the best of the last ten years. Finally, a band that proves that having a brain and making great rock music are not mutually exclusive. Johansen ans Sylvain are like a great old vaudville act. They complememtn each other so well, and obviously the new guys know how to play. Its been years since I've heard a record that rocks as hard as this and is still so POSITIVE.

The DVD that comes with it is really cool and fun to watch. Very interesting to see how these guys work together. They look like they had a lot of fun making this album. The film is short and sweet, with no fluff. Just a band in the studio making a very important record. I'm glad someone was there to capture it.

Free Music Review: Proof of Their Influence
Hit: 5 Stars

Mid-way through my first listening, I'm thinking of other bands and CDs that sound similar to the latest Dolls album.

It merely serves as proof that The Dolls are indeed the originators, the soul, and the vision for a new breed of rock music. Yet, as often as they've been imitated, they've never been duplicated.

Johansen and Sylvain carry on the embodiment of these legends while the influences of the tragically late Johnny Thunders, Jerry Nolan and Killer Kane are certainly felt throughout the disc.

Hard to pick favorites. They are all raw 70s sounding punk and blues based rock and roll at its very best. 30 years was too long a wait...Its great to have them back.
