Free Music Notes for In the Hands of God

Free Music Review: I wish they could put out one like this every month.
Hit: 5 Stars

It will never grow old musically but I have literally almost worn this CD out physically in less than a months time. I cannot say this is my favorite from them because I could never pick a favorite out of all their CDS. I adore them all. They help me spiritually and mentally with the soothing balm of their words. And the music is totally awesome. from "The way we roll" which is rockin happy about the group to "RSL 1984" which is kind of Peter's autobiography song with a real convicting chorus about walking with God, I get something out of every song, but I am prejudiced, this is my favorite group and every song they have ever done means so much to me in some way. "No Grave" is intense and full of immense hope. My 12 year old son says it has replaced "entertaining Angels" as his favorite. The title track is full of hope and lifts your spirits. "This is your Life" convicts you of not being slothful and redeeming the time. "The Upside" lifts your spirits in a way remembrences of " Million Pieces". The music is bouncy and joyful. Be a "fool for Christ's sake is what I get from "Dance" and have courage step outside of the box. Adventure in serving God. "Glorious" tells us that God is always and remains awesome and loving at all times. He is always there in spite of our failings. If you want the humour this group is known for listen to "My Friend Jesus" I love the line: "sound track from hell" I have thought that so many times myself. And the crown jewel: "Lead Me to the Cross," sums up the most important moment in history and our lives. I reccommend this CD.

Free Music Review: A brilliant last CD from Newsboys!
Hit: 5 Stars

I had been hearing "In the Hands of God" on the radio and knew I had to buy this CD, even before I found out that Peter Furler is leaving the band. I was saddened by that announcement, but really glad I had seen them on their "Go" tour last year (my son is on the DVD 4 times!). That was the best concert I've ever attended.

Anyway, when I got the CD, I was initially a little disappointed that it includes only 10 songs. But there are NO DUDS on this CD! EVERY song is a gem. I cannot stop listening to it, and I don't skip any of the songs or put them out of order. I especially love "No Grave" and I have already told my son that if I die suddenly, I want that song played at my memorial, REALLY LOUD!! :) I'm pretty sure he would honor my wish, which is why I told him specifically. My other big favorite is "RSL 1984," which kind of gives the philosophy of the band members within their lives' context.

But every track is great for its own reasons. You will NOT regret your purchase. 10 great songs is an amazing feat. I am sad because Newsboys without Peter isn't the same band, but this CD is a great way to end a long, grace-filled career. I can't wait to hear what Peter does in a solo role!

Free Music Review: In the Hands of God
Hit: 5 Stars

This album has a bittersweet feel to it, because of course it is Peter Furler's last album as the lead singer. It starts off with a song that just HAS to be a #1 hit someday, "The Way We Roll". Then there may be the rockiest Newsboys song yet, "No Grave". Peter really shows his stuff on this song. The next two I don't like so much, "This is Your Life," and "Glorious". Then comes the title track, which is OK in my opinion. Next stop, "The Upside," which starts out sounding a little bit like a Paper Mario theme or something (pretty cool). Then there's my favorite song on the album, "My Friend Jesus". This song really shows Steve Taylor's lyrical genius, in it he ryhmes the whole last verse together (call, vitriol, and wall)! The next song is a cover of Hillsong United, and I always skip it. Then comes, "Dance," another strong track that may become a hit. Now, at the end, there is the nostalgic, "RSL 1984," I'm not sure what the RSL stands for, but Newsboys formed in 1984. This song always makes me sad. Well, this is the end of our tour, and this album will surely go down in Newsboys history, as well as one of your favorites.

Free Music Review: Hard to believe it's this good after so many years at the top!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm not going to repeat the praise others have accurately expressed here but I do want to add that I was expecting somewhat less of an effort given their long term success and psuedo-departure of the lead singer.

I am too old to be prone to overstatement but I've been listening to music a long time and I must say this is one of the best all around albums I have ever heard. Some may have given this album "only" 4 stars but that is most likely an indication of their preference for a particular genre. The Newsboys cover a lot of ground here and every song is excellent!

The instrumentation and production are exceptional, the songs varied, the hard ones rock and the soft ones inspire. Vocals are strong. Every song is a "best hits" candidate. I've listened to dozens of older bands newer albums and they almost always disappoint. They run out of material, repeat themselves, lose vocal range and crispness or just don't seem interested in their own material.

I am amazed that after all these years a band can produce an album that is better than their previous ones.

Free Music Review: Fast Favorite
Hit: 5 Stars

If you have been listening to the Newsboys over their 24-year career, this new recording will be a fast favorite in your collection. The sound of this CD has many facets - piano-inspired praise, dance, and the wide-open plains of "In The Hands of God."

The song that stuck in my head, though, was "This Is Your Life." This song is a reminder to make the most of life, here and now, today. It reminds me of the sentiment from Rich Mullins, "Live like you'll die tomorrow, die knowing you'll live forever, live right."

My only regret with this CD is that it is not longer. Encompassing ten songs, I was left wanting more.

Much is being made of Peter Furler's departure from the group, as it should be. Having seen the Newsboys in concert many times over the years, his presence will be sorely missed. I cannot think of a better choice to replace him, though, than DC Talk's Michael Tait. Experienced, gifted and full of energy, Tait will bring much to the group going forward.
