Free Music Notes for In the Hands of GodFree Music Review: The next step for the Newsboys Hit: 5 Stars
This album shows the next step of this ever evolving band. Though it's 100% Newsboys-style it's still new and fresh. The sound of Īn the Hands of God" is a cross between "Take Me to Your Leader" and "Go". It leans towards rock, but holds on to the pop-sound that suits the Newsboys so well. If you listen to the songs with your eyes closed, you can imagine Michael Tate singing. (You can actually hear him in the backing vocals...)
When I first heard of the change in lead singers I was supprised, but hearing the album I fully understand that it should work without any problem.
What the future holds for the Newsboys is a step in the dark, but this album is a leap of faith.
Free Music Review: Wow, devoted, worshipful CCM album! Hit: 5 Stars
"In the Hands of God" is the swan song of vocalist Peter Furler, the last album he recorded with Newsboys before leaving the band. Although there are lingering elements of their dancey early work -- especially on the song appropriately titled "Dance" -- this album continues Newsboys' progression toward big, sweeping anthemic rock, one where the strings, keyboards, guitars, and vocals all build up into a wall of sound reminiscent of Coldplay or U2. Unlike on their previous album, "Go", there is no attempt to position "In the Hands of God" as a secular crossover, something that the title makes plain. This is a devoted, worshipful CCM album, one whose themes touch back to the group's earliest albums, but musically it's transitional, seeing Newsboys move further into rock as they're getting ready to leave Furler behind.
Free Music Review: Finally a Newsboys Album I Can Give 5 Stars Hit: 5 Stars
Been a fan for years and I am very critical of my favorite artists on everything from musical sound to how well the Gospel is presented. I was very critical of their last album "Go" and because of that I let a month go by before I bought this album. I wish I hadn't waited because this is truly their best. Yes there are some better songs on other albums in clusters, but this cd as a whole from beginning to end is SOLID and filled with powerful music and lyrics of all styles. What a way to go out! I can only hope that Peter comes back for one last concert or at least that they make a dvd concert of this album like the Thrive concert at the RocknRoll Hall of Fame.
Free Music Review: Good wholesome music with a clean message Hit: 5 Stars
I have always been a fan of the Newsboys, and own pretty much every album so I was thrilled to hear In the Hands of God (the song) on the radio as I knew an album was on its way. After giving the entire album multiple listens I came to the conclusion the Newsboys stand alone in so many good ways. While it was sad to hear Peter leaving the band, it was nice to see he was on this last "original" Newsboys album. It seems the Newsboys have gone through their share of changes, but the message and sound never suffer. I am still listening to this entire album and can't wait to see what they come out with next.
Free Music Review: Another classic release from Newsboys Hit: 5 Stars
I didn't think they could top their Go CD ....but I'm loving this one too. In the usual Newsboys style - there is a nice range of songs on this release - from the praise songs such as "Glorius", rock songs like "The way we roll", and some great softer ballads - "RSL 1984". I love "My friend Jesus"- great lyrics and message. Newsboys never fails to deliver a product with a strong message - along with some fun. "In the Hands of God" will be a Christian classic and is very timely for the current world events. Not sure what the band will be like without Peter - but he has left on top.
