Free Music Notes for In the Hands of GodFree Music Review: New Newsboys Hit: 4 Stars
Newsboys follow up their superb CD "Go" with "In the hands of God". Michael Tait of dcTalk appears waiting in the wings; he provides backing vocals and takes over as lead vocalist from Peter Furler from their next CD (Peter sings lead on this CD for the final time before leaving). I guess that puts paid to any hopes of his band Tait returning anytime soon.
The sound is what we have come to know and love from Newsboys; stomping Indie Dance/Rock ("The way we roll", the pulsing "Glorious) to mention a few. The bouncy "Upside" has a Beatles feel, while the choppy "My friend Jesus" has a Punk feel a la Greenday. The stomping aptly titled "Dance" is Dance/Rock that would make the Killers smile.
The rest comprise ballads; "No grave" (a lovely guitar driven ballad), "This is your life", title track "In the hands of God" (with deep inspiring lyrics), the stunning piano/string swathed "Lead me to the cross" (with an anthemic chorus, another "Lord, I don't know" or "It is You"), and "RSL 1984".
A new Newsboys with their same sound. great!
Free Music Review: In the Hands is Hands Down One of the Best Newsboys' Albums of Late! Hit: 4 Stars
Basically, I think this CD or album is excellent, with a lot of good or catchy tunes (In the Hands, Glorious, Upside, Dance, etc.) are very well written and executed and the guys all seem to be in their best form. Of course, when I found out that Peter was no longer going to be w/the band after this compilation, I was very sad or disappointed but will have to check out their latest release w/think its Michael Tate. Ok, well, all I can say is that to me this CD was almost a throwback to some of their earlier work, such as "Shine" and "Take Me to Your Leader," so I was pleasantly surprised but have always been a pretty big NB fan...keep on bringing us some great tunes!

Free Music Review: Thumbs up Hit: 4 Stars
On this album, the ones with right-on lyrics and unusual riffs worked the best, like "The Way We Roll"--what a great starter! Fantastic beats. This one is standard upbeat Newsboys. I am hooked on "In the Hands of God" as a single, too; it has an encouraging message and thoughtful lyrics--an excellent choice for a title track.
Overall, I have to say that this album has a little less drive than "Go," but then again, some of the songs on "Go" took a while to grow on me. In the end, I look forward to letting "RSL 1984" and some of the others work their way onto my favorite songs list, especially since The Newsboys are one of my favorite groups with their positive take and occasionally-quirky lyrics.
Free Music Review: Typical Newsboys Hit: 4 Stars
I thought this cd was typical Newsboys - a few outstanding tracks, some very nice tracks, and a few forgetable tracks. Those who have purchased the last few Newsboys cds will find that ITHOG is what we've come to expect from the band.
The cd is very good, but also very short. Ten songs on a cd that spans less than 38 minutes is somewhat disappointing, esp considering this is Peter Fuller's last one with the group. I would've liked more, but what is here is good.
One thing I will always respect Newsboys for - they always record songs that lift up Christ. You will leave this cd knowing without a doubt Who is is that they are singing about.
Free Music Review: Takes some time Hit: 4 Stars
I'm a newsboys fan, however, I don't own a lot of their former albums. This album took some getting used to, in fact, I didn't really like it at first. The more I listen to it, the more I enjoy it. Some of the songs have a harder base-line (sounds almost like hard rock) than what I typically listen to, but they are growing on me. It's definitely harder than some of their previous records, especially the worship albums. I think it's a good album and I'm glad I bought it.
