Free Music Notes for ThriveFree Music Review: The Newsboys back in shape after a long long break!!! Hit: 5 Stars
This album is amazing. Generally the favourite Newsboys album has always been 'Take me to your leader', and this is the first record they've made since then that challenges to take the crown. They must have locked themselves indoors with copies of 'Going Public' and 'Take me..' because Steve Taylor (the "magic" piece in the newsboys puzzle) has steered them backwards rather than forwards in style. With most bands I would see this is a bad thing but with the Newsboys it's what I've been hoping for. It all sounds very fresh and vital, and Taylor's lyrics flow over Furler's catchy pop-rock as well as they ever did. "Giving it over", "Thrive", "Cornelius", "Live in stereo" and especially "The fad of the land" are endlessly singable with simple but fun riffs and anthemic choruses. "It is you", despite the somewhat bland and standard lyrics, is a brilliant p+w song. The only real misstep is "John Woo", which despite being quirky and getting points for originality is a failed experiment. "Rescue" also gets on your nerves after a while. But over all, hats off to Furler & co. for giving us a reason to place Newsboys up among the giants of Christian music again where they belong.
Free Music Review: I love, love, love, love, LOVE this album!! Hit: 5 Stars
Well five years after this album was put out, and I'm just now buying it? What the heck is wrong with me???? I mean I bought Not Ashamed when it first came out, and I loved it to death~I bought Going Public when it first came out, and I loved it to death~ I bought Take Me to Your Leader when it came out, and I loved it to death. Then I just quit buying Newsboys albums~ well except the one with the hits.
This music is so gorgeous and so well done. Some of the lyrics make me laugh; some bring tears to my eyes. Totally inspiring and so beautiful!! Well, I'll catch up and buy and comment on the other ones when the infatuation for this one wears off.
The new CD Go is wonderful!!!
Free Music Review: A gem that boasts of the best Hit: 5 Stars
The Newsboys may have a successful 15-year career under their belts, but they, like a good wine, only get better with age. With each album, we are given a window to peek into the Newsboys' lives and watch as they grow as men, musicians, and seekers of Christ. "Thrive," their "most mature work to date", discusses everything from fun and encouragement to trust in spite of gnawing questions. It offers a range of sounds adapted indescriminately from an ocean of generations and culture - 70's and 80's rock (done tastefully!) and euro-flavored pop mixed into the ever-original, hard-to-put-your-finger-on Newsboys' sound. -And yes, I know, Steve Taylor did co-write on nearly all the songs. While the supplemental lyricist is deserving of praise (and receives no shortage of it) for his handicraft with Newsboys' leadsinger Peter Furler, it truly is Peter we have to thank for the gems which he so graciously allowed Steve Taylor to help serve up. :) (Sorry, Steve... There's always Sixpence None-The-Richer.) And as always... "The best is yet to come."
Free Music Review: Six Stars! Newsboys' Best! Wonderful Pop Songs! Hit: 5 Stars
Before I begin a song-by-song description of the record, I would like to say that THIS IS THE BEST ALBUM ON PLANET EARTH AND THERE IS NO WAY THAT YOU CAN PROVE ME WRONG!!!!! Now, on with the review.1.) "Giving it Over" A great rock song with meaningful lyrics. 2.) "Live in Stereo" Also a great rock song, yet the lyrics are confusing, alot like "Shine." 3.) "Million Pieces", 4.) "Thrive", 5.) "Rescue" All in the same genre. All great pop songs with a great meaning. 6.) "It Is You" May very well be the best Christian song ever created. A huge sucess. 7.) "Cornelius" Sounds like it could be on "Take Me To Your Leader" 8.) "Fad Of The Land" See: "Cornelius" 9.) "John Woo" A different style of music displayed by the 'Boys. A great song. 10.) "Lord, I Don't Know" Maybe this song was created to hush all of the people who don't think that the Newsboys don't play enough worship. It's pretty good. To close this review, I'd like to say: THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY THAT YOU CAN RATE THIS ALBUM AVERAGE!!! IT ROCKS!!! ADD IT TO YOUR COLLECTION TODAY!!!
Free Music Review: The Best Newsboys Album In Years! Hit: 5 Stars
From the opening track's gutty guitars, through the whistle-track on "Live In Stereo", to the catchy "Million Pieces", into the lush thought-provoking "Thrive" and glorious praise of "It Is You", (and on through every inch of every track,) The Newsboys are having some SERIOUS FUN again! This intensely personal project is brimming with the musical joy and enthusiasm of the 'Boys earlier albums. The tuneful variety in music style is refreshing and will appeal to a wide palate. Some of the "hooks" had me humming along after only one listen! This album also regains the band's lyrical fervor, exploring a range of challenges and triumphs in the Newsboys' faith walk. This album could have been entitled "SHINE 2", marking another collection of greatest hits. You can rest assured The Newsboys used their extra time with the pen and in the studio wisely, as everything that makes this band great is showcased in "Thrive".
