Free Music Notes for ThriveFree Music Review: The Best Newsboys Album In Years Hit: 5 Stars
From the opening track's gutty guitars, through the whistle-track on "Live In Stereo", to the catchy "Million Pieces", into the lush "Thrive" and glorious "It Is You", and on through every inch of every track, The Newsboys are having some SERIOUS FUN again! This intensely personal project is brimming with the musical joy and enthusiasm of the 'Boys earlier albums. The tuneful variety of music style is refreshing and will appeal to a wide palate. Some of the "hooks" will have you humming along after only one listen! This album also regains the band's lyrical fervor, exploring a range of challenges and triumphs in the Newsboys' faith walk. This album could have been entitled "SHINE 2", marking another collection of greatest hits. You can rest assured The Newsboys used their extra time with the pen and in the studio wisely, as everything that makes this band great is showcased in "Thrive".
Free Music Review: Solid Hit: 5 Stars
The Verve label has a collection of CDs called the Desert Isle discs, which they profess to be a collection of the greatest jazz albums ever. Probably named as such because if you were ever stranded on a tropical island with a lifetime supply of AA's and a CD player, these would be the discs you'd want to have with you. Well if anyone were to put together a similar list for Christian Music, this CD would have to be in it.As Christian music continues to develop and leave behind it's own history, certain releases stand out head and shoulders above the rest, Thrive is one of them. It's good, solid rock and roll that begs to be cranked and never delivers a weak note or lyric. It completely flows from beginning to end and I find myself just restarting it when it finishes. I've been a Newsboys fan since "Read All About It", but I think they're only now hitting their peak with this CD. Hopefully the current line-up sticks together for many more.
Free Music Review: The 'boys don't disappoint Hit: 5 Stars
As a big Newsboys fan, I have been eagerly awaiting the release of this album. The band comes through, big time, with a CD chock full of great music. The artistic core of the album is tracks 4-7: Thrive (the title track), a beautiful and melodic tune with wonderful lyics (the best lyics on the album in my opinion) Rescue, a lively, upbeat pop song that (like all great songs) sticks in your head and sort of becomes the soundtrack for you life for a few months. (It's my favorite cut on the album, really) It is You- pure, joyous worship Cornelius- an edgy rock song with the serious but somewhat offbeat lyrics the 'boys are known for. Not to say the other songs aren't good (they are), but these four are EXCELLENT and represent the varied musical styles that make this band so much fun to listen to. Every track is a worthy effort, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys music in the rock-and-roll tradition, Christain or not.
Free Music Review: Peter Furler and Phil Joel are Awesome on Vocals Hit: 5 Stars
This CD is awesome. No two songs sound alike. There's no holding back on this CD; the Newsboys are creative, energetic, and just gosh-darn good musicians. "Million Pieces" can stick in your head for a few months! "Thrive" just seems to grab onto your heart. "Rescue" picks up the beat and may be the weakest song on the CD; only because it sounds a little to disco-ee. "It is you" tugs at your soul, making you realize the majesty of our Savior. "Cornelius" is a work of art, word-wise.(...) "John Woo" is absolutely hilarious...this song is so much fun! And when I saw the Newsboys in concert (at Creationfest Eastcoast), they played a video along with it that was just as funny. "Lord (I Don't Know)" is pretty good as the final song...it winds down a great CD that I highly recommend everyone add to their collection. Well, I hope everyone enjoys this review! See ya next time.(...)
Free Music Review: THE BEST CD EVER FOR CRUISING! Hit: 5 Stars
this is by far my favorite cd of all time not to mention Newsboys in general.I reserved a copy at sounds of light a month in advance.Well worth the wait is all I can say. This cd never left my cars speaker system! It is the best album for cruising to especially if you play it back to back with TobyMac's Momentum (my second favorite cd).I enjoyed this great music for 3 months and then left it all behind to go to Basic Training to be an Infantryman in the U.S.Army.All i could think about was getting home to my Newsboys Thrive. When i finally graduated, the very first thing I did the night I got home was cruise to Thrive once more. Thanks to the Newsboys for helping me keep the faith alive in my soul and for reminding me that God has lifted me up with tender care and washed me clean in the palm of his hand.He holds me close so I can thrive and when he touches me I know I'm alive.
