My husband, sister-in-law and I saw this show on Broadway in July, 2010. We hadn't heard anything about the show, other than when we were waiting in line at the TKS booth in Time Square, where a young man said he highly recommended it, as he had seen it 12 times. We were more than pleasantly surprised. The show was amazing and I couldn't get the songs and music out of my mind after we left NYC. I promptly purchased the soundtrack, sung by they original Broadway cast, most of whom were in the performance we saw. I love the music and the songs and listen to them often.Free Music Review: AMAZING Show!

First of all, I'd like to make it clear that I do NOT recommend this CD if you haven't seen the show. The CD gives away some things about the show that I think it's better to find out during the show.
Next to Normal is the best musical I've seen in the last couple years. It's incredibly moving and definitely sad at times, but the music is amazing and the cast is wonderful. I highly recommend seeing the show and then buying the CD! Or buying the CD and not listening to it until you see it (my best friend does that a lot).

While I love this cast album and cannot stop listening to it, the story line of this musical might not be for everyone. If you are expecting your typical happy go lucky, Buzby Berkley showgirl musical this album may be a bit much with some of the topics this musical broaches. My life is pure boredom compared to what happens in this family's four walls. But if you like cutting edge, make you think type of musicals (RENT, Spring Awakening) this is an awsome production and a great addition to any Broadway collection.Free Music Review: NEXT TO NORMAL

I have not had a musical touch my heart like this in years. I can't stop listening to it. As someone that suffers from chronic depression with constant suicidal thoughts, I know the toll mental illness can take on one's life. The creator's of this musical have captured the very essence of what it is to feel half-alive because your brain wants you to be dead. Bravo to them and this brilliant, brave cast and producers for tackling such an important subject matter on the musical stage.Free Music Review: The BEST Cast Album EVER

I downloaded this CD from elsewhere, but this CD is absolutely, breathtakingly amazing. It isn't just a cast album, it's the entire story pretty much. It's a mix of a rock album, and other music styling. Tom Kitt puts together a fantastic score. Everyone does an awesome job, but the standout is of course Alice Ripley as Diana Goodman. I honestly can't say enough good things about this music.
