Free Music Notes for Now Or NeverFree Music Review: from a Boy to Nick Carter Hit: 5 Stars
After listening to BSB's sugary lyrics, I find it a wonderful change to not only actually hear Nick's voice (which is gorgeous) but to hear him sing more mature lyrics. He tries his hand at rapping (lightly in "Help Me", more so in "I Stand for You") and, of course, sweet and gentle ballads ("Do I Have to Cry for You" - so sweet; the delicate "Heart Without a Home", and "Who Needs the World"). songs I know will be rocking the foundation of dance clubs across the country will be "Blow your Mind", "Miss America" and "Girls in the USA". "Help Me": A pop/rock fast-paced love song about a man begging his woman to help him through life. (I'm willing . . . :-) "My Confession": A very homey-sounding song; I can almost imagine this being recorded on someone's front porch. The lyrics are pretty catchy, and confesses one's desires. "I Stand for You": Moderate to fast-paced, with some rapping near the end. The lyrics hold your interest, as does the beat. About him wanting to take off and enjoy life, but also that he'll always be there for his sweetheart if she's willing to try. "Do I Have to Cry for You": A very gentle ballad, about him wanting to work through a fight with a significant other. The gentle harmony in the background is perfect for the song because the sweet lyrics would have been lost in a stronger instrumental. "Girls in the USA": My favorite fast-paced song on the CD. Heavy, fast-hitting, and enfused with energy, I can definitly see this being a hit in the dance club. My favorite line is about the girls in the NYC (Go NYC, wish I could move back...). "I Got You": An up-beat tempo gentle on the instrumentals. His life is perfect now that he has his love. "Is it Saturday Yet": Moderate-paced, catchy beat, about one's desire for it to be the weekend so that one can have fun! I love how it mentions celebrities as his family, and his "bro" is Aaron Carter... what a nice big bro! "Blow Your Mind": A definitie hit in the techno dance clubs. The lyrics are very catchy. "Miss America": His sultry voice for this particular song is what will make it a hit in dance clubs. I feel like I'm there with him when he describes the "heavenly vision". I don't think any other artist could pull this off as effectively. This is an all-around awesome song, and it's more adult lyrics show his growing maturity from the BSB boy to Nick Carter the man. "I Just Wanna Take You Home": Fast-paced, revealing of a guy's emotions (no offense intended guys). Like Blink 182's First Date. Catchy tune that will definitly stick in your head. "Heart Without a Home": Easily my favorite ballad on the entire album. His voice gently croons about his love for his girl, and that he'll forever be there as her safe haven. "Who Needs the World": The final slow song on teh album. I love the lyrics, but the tune drives me up the wall. It reminds me very much of "How Did I Fall in Love with You" off Black & Blue. Another thing I love is that Nick wrote or co-wrote a fair share of the album. This boy's going places, and he sounds awesome!
Free Music Review: Flying Solo Hit: 5 Stars
Let me preface by saying I didn't expect to like Nick Carter's solo CD. I like some Backstreet songs, but consider myself to be a lukewarm fan at best. And of the voices in the group...Nick's just didn't seem to me to be the one that would break out. I'm eating my words. The first couple times I heard the debut single "Help Me", I didn't know who I was listening to. I would like to think that I would be fair and still have liked it, but...I may have been a bit biased against it due to the overhype of the competition between fellow "boyband"er Justin Timberlake and Nick. But having a completely open mind, I found myself starting to sing along with the single. It's catchy, it's a little rockier than Backstreet, and the lyrics are ones that most people can identify with. When I learned who it was, I decided to take a chance and see if it were a fluke or if Nick's CD was going to be something a lot different (and better) than what I was expecting. So I decided to check the album out a little more and listened to the clips that were on NickCarter.Com. Though the clips were short, they were all different and in varying degrees enjoyable. So I decided to buy the CD on its release date. Nick's solo efforts have impressed me. In my opinion, his voice is far more suited to some of the styles that he tries out on this CD than it is in some of the softer sounds of Backstreet. And he tries out several different styles. I don't think many could listen to his second single "Do I Have to Cry For You" and not notice the influence of Bryan Adams. The heartfelt rock ballad is reminiscent of some of my all-time favorite songs, and Nick's emotional performance is supurb. For those who love Backstreet's sound, there's plenty here that will please, most notably "Who Needs the World", an acoustic pop ballad, and "Heart Without a Home" which is borderline pop/country. And for those who prefer more alternative or rockier sounds, there's even more, including the rhythmic "My Confession" (this one started out as my least favorite but after a few listenings it's definitely grown on me and ranks among the favorites), the fun "Is it Saturday Yet" (in my opinion least likely to be a single, but it's fun), the power ballads "I Stand For You" and "I Got You" (probably my second favorite track), the lusty "Miss America", the hormonal and catchy "I Just Wanna Take You Home" and "Girls in the USA" (while a good song musically, my least favorite lyrically). My favorite track, though, is "Blow Your Mind", with it's more electronic sound and somewhat darker theme. All in all, Nick has impressed me with his solo effort. A couple of the songs took a few listenings but the ones I didn't like initially have grown on me quickly with the exception of one (hey I have yet to find a CD that I like everything off of). If you're reluctant to purchase due to the bias against "boybands" you'll definitely be missing out on this one. It's my favorite CD buy so far this year. Which surprises me greatly.
Free Music Review: "Now or Never" by Nick Carter Hit: 5 Stars
"Now or Never," Backstreet Boy Nick Carter's solo debut, is a conglomeration of beautiful ballads, rockin' rock, grungey-grunge and so much more. Carter co-wrote 5 of the 12 tunes, and no two songs on the CD sound alike."Help Me," Carter's first single off "Now or Never," is Christian rock at its best. This is an upbeat, uplifting pop-rock song that everyone can relate to when they're feeling confused. "My Confession" is a tune co-writer Carter shyly croons to some lucky person with whom he's obsessed. "This is my confession," quietly announced during the chorus, is one hook you'll be singing over and over again. "I Stand for You," another Carter co-write, is a fast-paced, forward-moving, grunge tune. The chorus, "I'm freeee, Yeah-ahh," would be an excellent soundtrack for a sports car commercial. This song is about the pursuit of freedom, something Carter values NOW more than ever. "Do I Have to Cry for You?", yet another song co-penned by Carter, is a question-begging-on-bended-knee ballad that will bring you to YOUR knees. Carter's raspy voice, a la Bryan Adams, is ultra-sexy here. "Girls in the USA," co-written by Carter, features Mr. Vegas. This song is a shout-out to all of Carter's female fans nationwide. It boasts some rollickin' guitar licks. "I Got You" is Carter's beatitude. In a world where everything goes wrong, Carter is grateful to be blessed with true love. Carter's final co-written ditty, "Is It Saturday Yet?", should be the soundtrack for a cartoon commercial. In this cute and funny tune, Carter mentions his brother Aaron and Nintendo. The ending is hilarious! "Blow Your Mind" is a haunting pop-rock tune Carter may have sung about ex-lover Willa Ford as retribution for all the nasty songs she wrote about him for her CD. "Miss America" is so hot and sexy that I had to take my coat off in 20 degree weather! "I Just Wanna Take You Home" is an unfair come-on. Who can resist Carter's sexy voice? "Heart Without a Home (I'll Be Yours)" is a catchy, pop tune. Don't miss this personal invitation from Carter. Be sure to give this "rebel without a cause" your heart. "Who Needs the World?" is how Carter has been feeling for quite some time. Very personal and powerful. If you're a Nick Carter fan, this CD is his gift to you. Carter bares his soul here on every track and risks it all NOW because he knows that if he doesn't take this opportunity to show us what he can do solo, he may NEVER get the chance to do so again. If you're not a Nick Carter fan, go out on a limb and buy the CD anyway. You'll be pleasantly surprised. This Boy can rock! Fan or not, enjoy the beautiful photos of Nick Carter inside the CD jacket. And be sure to read his uplifting acknowledgements. Listen to this timeless gem NOW! NEVER will you regret doing so.
Free Music Review: Now Or Never, an impressive debut effort by Nick Carter Hit: 5 Stars
Nick Carter's new album dropped on October 29th. It was his solo debut and much anticipated by Nick's fans young and old. On his solo effort Nick wanted to get back to the music that inspired him from his early days which was rock & roll. On making this album Nick wanted to blend rock with pop and come out with music that could be enjoyed by all. Now or Never has 12 songs on it. The lead track is "Help Me" which was his first single. The song perfectly combined the rock and pop sound that Nick was going for. It did great on radio and could always be heard on the nightly radio countdowns all across the country. The second track "My Confession" is another great mid-tempo song with an infectious beat, sure to be a fan favorite. Track three is called "I Stand For You" which is one of my personal favorites. The song definitely has more of a punk rock feel. I could totally see myself blaring this song while driving in my car with the windows down. The song will be awesome to see in concert. "Do I Have To Cry For You" is the fourth track on the album and is scheduled to be the second single. A beautiful rock ballad that could easily be compared to the likes of Bryan Adams, was written by Nick and shows his growth in his writing skills. Track five "Girls In The USA" is an all out rock song showing love for all types of girls. This is another song that will be great in concert with all of the energy Nick has on stage. "I Got You", track six, is a mellow track talking about love, which features Nick's vocal skills. Track seven, "Is It Saturday Yet?" is another of my personal favorites. The song has an infectious punk, pop, rock sound which talks about growing up and what things have affected him. It's a song I'm sure many young adults can relate to. "Blow Your Mind" has a unique electronic sound, similar to "Blue Monday" done by Orgy. The song talks about a relationship with a girl who drives him crazy. Track nine, "Miss America" is a sultry rock song about a fantasy girl, which features great vocals by Nick. "I Just Wanna Take You Home" is a song which has a great rock feel sure to be awesome live on stage. It has awesome drum beat with a strong guitar sound. "Heart Without A Home (I'll Be Yours)" is a beautiful ballad with a message about not having to be alone and without love. Nick's vocals on this track are top notch. The final track on the album is "Who Needs The World" is a smooth guitar driven ballad talking about being in love and only needing that one special person in your life. All in all it's a great solo debut effort by Nick. He definitely accomplished his goal of combining rock and pop music. I think anyone that picks up the cd will be pleasantly surprised. Congratulations to Nick for a job well done!
