Free Music Notes for Pink Moon

Free Music Review: Masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

Pink Moon will always hold a special place in my heart. Not only was this my first introduction to the Artist. But was also my first CD exchange with a dear friend. The ramifications of emotions and memories this album brings are at times overwhelming.
This Album embodies all I ever wanted to achieve, and all that I have.

In the most simple definition Pink Moon represents the true shape of music. Music in its purest form and most beautiful shade.
Recorded over two nights in October 1971. Nobody knew he was making an album. He turned in the master tapes and proclaimed "I have no more songs left to sing".

This is just a man and his guitar. No more, no less. This is not about making a statement, creating greatness, or re-designing the laws of music. But merely an expression. And that is what music should be.
Is so easy to indulge ourselves with production details and ideals. That we forget what true music should be.

Free Music Review: Timeless and truly inspired
Hit: 5 Stars

I do not need to reiterate the other reviewers' analyses concerning the technical aspects of the music on this album, other than to state that it is all true (5 stars). Musically, the CD is a supreme technical achievement. More importantly, however, the CD is truly an inspired piece of art in every sense of the word. The songs were written, composed and played while the artist was in the throes of depression. The collection as a whole is a swan song for this musician.

It is this combination of the artist's technical genius and his intense level of emotional inspiration that make this such a timeless, profound and moving CD. I have listened to the CD at least 50 or 60 times in the last few months. It is simply that original, and emotionally affecting.....it is simply that exceptional. It was no suprise to me, that Sufjan Stevens, another talented musician that I recommend, lists this as his favorite CD.

Free Music Review: Late discovery, first on my list
Hit: 5 Stars

I was a latecomer into Nick Drake's music. As many other people, I re-discovered him "thanks" to the media hype of recent times. And boy am I happy I did! Nick Drake's music combines the best elements of folk and brit psychodelia.

When I listen to Drake, besides entering a peaceful state where I feel in perfect communion with the rest of the universe, I remember music from Jeff Buckley, Elliott Smith (both, no longer among us as well), Rufus Wainwright and even Cat Stevens...

Sad thing, how after thirty years of his passing, a commercial may bring his music back to life, some say. Me, I feel it's all just fine: Nick's posthumous album brings 1972 all back, with one mellow tune after another in 2004 or any other year you choose to play it, making it the perfect soundtrack to ride to and back from work, write to or quite simply... sit back and let go.

Free Music Review: Simple but thought-provoking music.
Hit: 5 Stars

With all these new bands hustling together and releasing songs with auto tuning or otherwise busy and unnatural music, it is good to listen to this CD because the simplicity of all the songs is really fresh and draws you in. The only two things you hear on this CD is Nick Drake and his beautiful acoustic guitar, with the exception of a few bars in the song "Pink Moon" where a piano actually comes in. Certainly, Nick Drake is what I would call an acquired taste and not for the mainstream audience. However, that does not make his music bad at all and in my opinion makes it even better. I like the CD because it's short and you can listen to it all in one sitting easier than most CD's out there. Not to mention most of the songs are 2-3 minutes long.

My favorite songs on the CD are Pink Moon, Place To Be, Road, and From The Morning. This is a 5 star CD for me.

Free Music Review: Unfathomably Beautiful
Hit: 5 Stars

I first got into Nick Drake when I downloaded some tracks from Bryter Layter (also a great album), but when I first heard Pink Moon I was blown away. What this album lacks in length (28 minutes) it more than makes up for in pure musical brilliance. There is a lot to be sound for the beauty of one man and his guitar. For my money Drake is the finest lyricist of the 20th century; Parasite is my personal favorite from this album. Coupling his lyrics with his whispful yet powerful voice creates a feeling of honesty that seems so rare to find anymore. His guitar playing is absolutely exceptional, ranging from rhythm rich picking and strummng (Things Behind the Sun, Parasite) to the the plaintive sparseness of Horn. A truly masterful work, a must for any fan of the singer/songwriter genre. Actually anyone who considers themselves a true fan of great music should own this album.
