Free Music Notes for Dark HorseFree Music Review: "S is for the simple need,E is for the ecstasy,X is just to mark the spot cause that's the one you really want"-S.E.X Hit: 5 Stars
After the huge succes that was "All The Right Reasons"(2005) you have to wonder how Nickelback or any band could continue and release another album without deceving anyone.I admire the band for not rushing to make another album after such a success, they just took their time and made sure the album was good before releasing it and in my opinion it was worth it."Dark Horse" is released three years latter and after listening to it many times I can say that it's a really good album,I don't think it's their definitive album but I'd say that it's well worth it.I didn't think they could make something this good but they did,I didn't expect much of it so I was pleasantly surprised.
I have to say first that not a song here sucks, some are better and will be remembered more than others but I think they all have something that makes them each special and likeable. You get the heavy songs, the ballads, something to please everyone much like any Nickelback album.I like their previous album All The Right Reasons but I tought that they lost some of their edge present on earlier albums on that one."Dark Horse" is similiar to it but it's less poppy and it's more edgy wich should still please both. The thing about this album is that it's a lot more sex oriented(songs like "Animals" and "Figured You Out were like that)with songs like "S.E.X","Shakin'Hands" and "Something In Your Mouth" wich may offense you or may not.
1. Something In Your Mouth : The opening track of the album is possibly my favourite,I love the energy, the riff great, everything on this track works 5.5/5
2. Burn It To The Ground : Very strong song, strong energy pretty much like the song above, classic rock!5/5
3. Gotta Be Somebody : The first single, good beat,I like lyrics a lot check them out.In the vein of their last album.5/5.
4. I'd Come For You : A song that could have also been found on the previous album, not much to say about this one,it's a good one.The breakdown section was very well done.4/5
5. Next Go Round : More sex-oriented song."We're gonna do it hanging upside down" kinda thing wich gets lame after a while.3.5/5
6. Just To Get High : A song about drug addiction, very catchy chorus and a strong message behind this one.5/5
7. Never Gonna Be Alone : Great ballad,I predict this one will be a radio hit, reminescent of "Far Away",very good.5/5
8. Shakin' Hands : I don't have much to say about this one. It's okay to me but there is much better on the album, good slow riff tought.3.5/5
9. S.E.X. : Listen carefully to the chorus(and see review title for exemple),love the heavy riff, great song.Great little dirty song!5/5
10. If Today Was Your Last Day : I think every band at one point of their career cover this subject so I've grown tired of it,the song itself is good but the subject's been overkilled.I don't really like this one.3.5/5
11. This Afternoon : Very much a feel good kind of song, good for what it is but it's a little too happy for me.3/5
I think hiring producer "Mutt" Lange was a good idea, the result is a very good album. The band was very reserved and kept to a little group of people,by letting Lange in they made a good decision,at least it didn't hurt them. The songs are all good,I can listen to each of them, listen to the album fully trough and like it.
Of course there's always going to be people who say the band sucks and play the same stuff over and over again but that's not necessarily true, even if it is you're free to like what you want.Over the years the band's caught on quite a few fans and they're going to determine how sucessfull the album is going to be or how good it is,not some dude who says he doesn't like the band.I always liked the band because they sound sincere and seem to have something other bands out there today don't have.Their songs can be heavy or a ballad with great melody, yet it all works for this band and Chad Kroeger has a pleasant voice wich is one things most bands from today don't have in my opinion.
Nickelback made a terrific album with "Dark Horse" and judging by it's quality they still have some left in the tank and could still be around for years to come.I feel I will really enjoy for quite some time to come,in fact I already am.If you like Nickelback, especially ATRR then you should like this one too.
Free Music Review: BEST ROCK ALBUM OF THE YEAR AND A GREAT STORY TO TELL ABOUT WHAT IT DID FOR ME!!!!!!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
Let me tell you a little story about this cd and what it did for me: I am an avid weight lifter and there are days when I just don't have any motivation at all, whether it be from burn out or just being plain tired. Tuesday's(today) is when I work my triceps and calves and I can't stress enough how much I hate exercising those 2 areas of the body even though they are vitally important for a well proportioned body.
This morning I loaded up Nickelback's latest cd Dark Horse on to my ipod and headed to the YMCA with very little motivation. When I got there I stretched, clipped on my ipod, and went and sat on a bench to try and gather some motivation and steam. I had not yet turned on my ipod, nor had I listened to Dark Horse, yet. After a few minutes or so of sitting I turned on my ipod thinking I might as well do something productive and listen to Nickelback's new album instead of sitting their groping and looking all gloomy.
Turned it on and listened to about the first 30 seconds of track #1, Something In Your Mouth, and was immediately blown away, pumped up, and ready to slam those triceps with skull crushers with the utmost conviction. I was so motivated by that first song that it started a chain reaction that made me blow thru that hour and 15 minute work-out with ease.
It wasn't just the first song either. It was song after song on this album that was so fresh and adrenaline pumping. To be completely honest I wasn't expecting much from the album other than a few really good songs and a few ok songs due to listening to some real dud cd's lately and because while I like Nickelback's last album I thought it could've been better. I was blown away by Dark Horse from beginning to end!!!!!! There was not 1 single song on there I didn't like. Personally, I think this is Nickelback's best album since The State, which was released in 2000 and this album may even be better than it.
The first song on Dark Horse did it for me, though. I think it's the best song on the album. There are several others that should and possibly will be radio releases. The powerful ballad I'd Come For You is one that comes to mind. It is simply a fantastic song. Even their current radio releases from this album, Gotta Be Somebody and If Today Was Your Last Day, are superb, but I find that they are my least favorites and that's a really good thing. The vocals and guitar riffs on this album are spectacular. The lyrics are intelligent and well thought out. Sometimes they are humorous. Just listen to the lyrics of Something In Your Mouth. Great stuff! Or how about track #9 S.E.X.! Listen to it's lyrics and be ready to sing along. Such great stuff! If I could sum it up with one
Chad Kroeger and the gang have outdone themselves this time and I believe it will be hard for them to top this album. If anybody can do it though I believe they can. If you only buy one rock album this year or only buy one between now and Christmas make it Dark Horse by Nickelback. You will not be disappointed in the least with this awesome album! Not a dud one amongst the 11 tracks on this album. Accept no imitations and BUY THIS ALBUM NOW!!!!!!! Thank you Nickelback for the motivation and the outstanding album!!!!!!
Free Music Review: Rocking it out again Hit: 5 Stars
Whenever a bona fide rock god supergroup releases a new album, there is always a sense of anticipation wondering whether or not this will be the release that is their fall from grace and into a cast into the bargain bin two weeks after release. Coming back to the charts with their sixth studio album, Nickelback have again proven their deserving of acclaim and the millions of fans world wide.
The album rings true to the well known sound that forced the band into the international spotlight back in 2002 with their album Silver Side Up. Since then, the band has gone from strength to strength with several world tours and another three subsequent albums, Nickelback have become a household name the world over with their unique blend of power ballad and enthralling rock legend sounds. This time they have teamed up with legendary producer John "Mutt" Lang who has worked with acts like Shania Twain, Bryan Adams and AC/DC. The collaboration is astounding and benefits both parties credentials.
Dark Horse is no exemption to the bands well deserved accolades. The Rolling Stones magazine gives it 4.5 stars out of 5. The New York Times and Billboard both say that it's worthy of its predecessor which sold 8 million copies to a society that doesn't pay for CDs. Nickelback is known for their no holds barred lyrics which tell a story each and every time and all reviews agree that the band has again, stuck to form.
On Dark Horse the stories keep coming and each one grabs you by the ear and makes you listen. Just To Get High is the hottest song on the album and tells the horror story of a best friend who becomes chemically dependant. Stooping to selling his mother's jewelry and pulling a knife on a woman passing by. The song screams of the helpless feeling of not being able to help and being a bystander while this self destructive cycle rolls around.
As with all their other albums, there is a verbose amount of sexual innuendo all the way through all the lyrics present on the album. On the song Shakin' Hands they comment on a high society escort who, as they say, earns six figures working three days a week. Whether it's a comment on the state of the way Hollywood works or something more sinister is never clarified. There is a comment that she does it to get ahead in L.A. though, so anything is possible.
Rounding out the album is the happy feel good song This Afternoon which talks about the end of the day. What they did, what they'll do and is a quiet reflection on all the things positive in their lives. It's a stark contrast to the rest of the work on the album which has a strong, blunt trauma feel to it. The light guitar plucking and background noise that sounds like a bar in the early evening with people happily chatting after work all make the song joyous and enticing to listen to.
Nickelback are bona fide rock gods. Their albums sell by the millions worldwide, their tours sell out and they release solid pieces of work one after the other. This is the rock band that does no wrong, does not hold anything back. They're blunt, they're crass and they're not always genteel. They are the penultimate rock group.
Free Music Review: One of the most enjoyable rock albums of the year! Hit: 5 Stars
Despite accusations of sounding too generic and cheesy, Nickelback have quickly become one of the most electrifying rock bands of our time thanks to at least 3 hit albums and a string of catchy pop/rock tunes over the past 10 years. With clear influences from such 80's bands like Def Leppard and ZZ Top, Nickelback have also successfully become what those bands were for their era, only 20 years late, which is a good thing.
Dark Horse is no different from past efforts, except for the collaboration with Mutt Lange, the guy famous for previously working with artists like Bryan Adams and Def Leppard, and that is a good thing, also. As a matter of fact, Lange's presence on the album gives it a boost in all the right directions.
The albums opens up with the party starter Something In Your Mouth, a song so catchy you'll be humming the opening chords for hours after hearing it. Burn It To The Ground follows suit, another catchy tune with layers of guitars, and Chad Kroeger's fun lyrics. The first single, Gotta Be Somebody, sounds awesome clocking in 3rd in the tracklist. Despite the cheesy lyrics, the song's sound is overwhelmingly satisfying for any hard rock fan. What's a Nickelback album without the ballads? Well, this album consists of a whole bunch of them starting with the lovely I'd Come For You, passing through the touchy wedding song Never Gonna Be Alone, and ending with the thoughtful life-pondering If Today Was Your Last Day. Dark Horse also includes such public awareness gems as Just To Get High about a drug addict wasting his life for a hit, with which Nickelback have now become pioneers (watch the video for If Everyone Cared from the 2005 effort All The Right Reasons). There's also the raunchy Next Go Round where Nickelback get down and dirty, resulting in a song that will bring the roof down at live concerts. And I just can't forget about the album closer, This Afternoon, a song in the vein of Rockstar about kicking back and enjoying time with friends, which is quite frankly the most uplifting song on the album, and one of Nickelback's greatest songs, thanks to the handy work of Mutt Lange.
One of the most enjoyable rock albums of the year!
Highly Recommended

Free Music Review: Now this is how they should have sounded all along! Hit: 5 Stars
I don't even know where to start. I've always liked some of Nickelback's songs from the very beginning but never could like an entire album of theirs so I just never bought a Nickelback album.
Then one of my friends who also loves the true rock like I do was telling me that this album is everything and more that I love about being a rock fan. So I heard some songs on YouTube like Gotta Be Somebody and just totally fell in love with that song! I mean, any true rock fan would be crazy to not love that song.
So just today I went to the store and bought this album and from the time I started listening to the time I made it home, I heard the entire album from beginning to end and I am just totally speechless! I just cannot believe that a band whose albums I've never liked in their entirety before could make a total masterpiece like this where when I got home, I felt like the album just started!
I mean, I was completely in rock heaven and never once got bored! Even some Def Leppard Hysteria sounds I heard on this album and just couldn't believe how much this rocks!!
My all time favorite is Gotta Be Somebody and other all time favorites are I'd Come For You, Burn It To The Ground, Something In Your Mouth, Never Gonna Be Alone, and Shakin' Hands but this whole album just totally rules and there's no reason at all for anyone who loves true hard rock to not love this!! And especially since this album actually has REAL guitar solos that have been missing for so long!!
This is just too awesome for words and I will be keeping this CD in my CD player for months to come and I will always be hearing this album for years and years! THIS is what Nickelback are all about!!
