Free Music Notes for Dark Horse

Free Music Review: Incredible
Hit: 5 Stars

The latest studio album from Nickelback has a great dark gritty edge. It is harder then some of their more recent offerings. It also has some really raunchy undertones, in both the music and the lyrics. There are some gritty songs such as Something In Your Mouth, Shakin' Hands and S.E.X. that include such lyrics as "Got to meet the hottie with the million dollar body" and "They say it's over budget, but you'd pay her just to touch it, come on!" from Something In Your Mouth. Also from Shaking Hands:
"Well, she ain't no Cinderella when she's getting undressed
'Cause she rocks it like the naughty wicked witch of the west
Far too pretty to be giving it cheap
That's why she's making six figures workin' three days a week".
This is an amazing album, good to work to great to drive to. The album is so good it is all I have listened to for over a week straight. There is fantastic percussion, strong guitar riffs and, as always, tremendous vocals from Chad Kroeger. The album is riveting. You find yourself enjoying the tune you're listening to and anticipating the one to come. The only drawback is, because of how raunchy the album is, I cannot listen to it with the kids in the car, and an example is from S.E.X.:
"Yes sex is always the answer
It's never a question
Cause the answer's yes
Oh the answer's yes
Not just a suggestion
If you ask the question
Then it's always yes".
But for personal enjoyment it is my favorite rock or metal album to be released in the last few years. Pick it up for simple pleasure to the ears and lyrics that raise a lot of interesting questions about our society.

Free Music Review: The 'awesome' is back in music
Hit: 5 Stars

Okay, so I have every album Nickelback has ever done and I've loved them from the beginning. First I want to know why everyone is so brutal about artists changing direction with their content and sound. I thought it was about expression, no? Having said that, I really don't see that this is all that different from the last record, in sound anyway. It is different from the earlier stuff like Curb, but it's still fantastic. I love everything about it. It's a little naughty, which I love and it's very fun. I also like the slower songs. The skeptics need to listen to the words I guess, they will blow you away. It's really amazing. So I give it five stars for sure. Here we go with the breakdown:

1. Something In Your Mouth 5/5 love this song, love the way Chad Kroeger says 'naughty'
2. Burn It To The Ground 5/5 gotta love that metal!!!
3. Gotta Be Somebody 4.5/5 awesome song, period.
4. I'd Come For You 4.5/5 love the words in the song, amazing.
5. Next Go Round 5/5 great metal sound and makes me laugh - so fun!
6. Just To Get High 3.5/5 has a great message, but not a personal favorite.
7. Never Gonna Be Alone 5/5 LOVE this song, love his voice!!!!
8. Shakin' Hands 5/5 naughty, fun, and just a great all around song.
9. S.E.X. 4.5/5 great and fun
10. Today Was Your Last Day 4.5/5 great song great words.
11. This Afternoon 5/5 I really like this one, even though it's a bit different for them. You can almost sense their nostalgia - it's about beginnings or their roots. Great song.

Over all a great record. They just do it for me, I'm a fan for life!

Free Music Review: SOLID And SIMPLY...NICKELBACK!
Hit: 5 Stars

I had to add a review on this latest Nickelback CD "Dark Horse". I purchased it the 1st week it came out and well I didn't think of leaving a review but now I will mostly because of a review "Five5x" left. Well I commented to him and now I want all that are thinking of buying this CD to listen to what he doesn't know. FIRST off this CD is great and it is "SOLID And SIMPLY...NICKELBACK!" It's on the same wave length as their last great CD "All The Right Reasons". Every track is impressive. As a teenager from the 80's and being a major Def Leppard fan, when I saw Mutt Lang being involved in the project I knew it would be an impressive CD. There was NO doubt to me I would purchase it and I awaited the premier date with enthusiasm. I knew what Mutt Lang is about... He's A PERFECTIONIST. I hear little signs of Mutt in it as a lot reviewers have stated. Is that a good thing Mutt being part of this? Yes I say only because again Mutt is a perfectionist. The songs, "Something In Your Mouth" and "Burn It To The Ground" are my personal favorites. "Gotta Be Somebody" is the 1st track released from the CD, and I think that was a good choice.. It's a great radio song. The 2 ballads "I'd Come For You" and "Never Gonna Be Alone" are I think their best ballads they've recorded to this point. At first I wan't sure of the track "Just To Get High" mainly because of the title, but I listened to the lyrics and found their message is anti-drugs and the music compliments it nicely. Overall the CD I think hits on all cylinders and is a perfect back-up to their last CD "All The Right Reasons".

Free Music Review: Just as good as All The Right Reasons maybe even better
Hit: 5 Stars

All The Right Reasons will probably be Nickelbacks best album, but this is a close second. The only thing I don't like about this album is the name and album cover, couldn't they come up with something more creative? I loved the album cover and name for All The Right Reasons since day one and still do and I think its there best cover. The cover art here just seems bland and boring but its not about the cover its about the music and the music is the still the same old Niceklback we have grown to love. Also to the people who complain that Nickelback write the same album and same songs over and again there not the only band that does that AC/DC has made a 35+ career doing that and they still continue to put out great albums so whats wrong with that? Although I wish Nickelback would branch out a little bit and try something new but I've grown to accept it. I'm a long time Nickelback fan ever since I heard Leader of Men on the radio I knew this band had potential and I was right it seems they get better with each CD. Dark Horse is one of those albums that will grow on you which was the case for me. I didn't like it at first but the next go round I was hooked. I can't name the best songs on this album because they are all good and single-worthy which is why I gave the album 5 stars if I had to say a song I didn't like it would Burn it to the Ground I don't know why I just don't like this song. So for all who loved All The Right Reasons theres no reason why you won't love this album and be sure to catch them on there 2009 North America tour they are great band live.

Free Music Review: Nickelback deliver a monster album with the help of Mutt Lange.
Hit: 5 Stars

I've never been a Nickelback fan and don't love Kroeger's voice, yet I think this is one of the best rock albums of the past few years. Hiring the legendary Mutt Lange was a coup - sonically, it's amazingly lush, powerful & crisp. The sound is unbelievable.

Instead of weakening the band with too much of the overproduced Shania-thing, Mutt balances his strengths with the band's identity quite nicely. He also pushed the songwriting forward, and there are melodic hooks galore. And for once, Nickelback are playing actual guitar solos...not pointless wanking solos, but highly melodic and charged solos (as in the rocker Just To Get High). This disc expands Nickelback's appeal beyond the alt-rock & moody post-grunge thing to rock fans across the board. There's something for everyone. Songs like "If Today Was Your Last Day" or "This Afternoon" are instantly catchy in the way Def Leppard was with Hysteria (just updated), while rockers will find much to like in the opener "Something in Your Mouth", the aforementioned "Just to Get High" and stomper "Burn it to the Ground", among others. This album is tailor-made for world domination and will be massive. Yes, the lyrics are at times sexist and silly...but that's part & parcel of the hard rock game and Nickelback is no exception. It's brash, blunt, and sometimes cliched, but you can't argue with the great rock music. I didn't think Nickelback had it in them, and thought Mutt was past his expiration date when it came to rock, but they proved me wrong.
