Free Music Notes for Neptune CityFree Music Review: It Gets in Your Blood! Hit: 5 StarsI have had to shut it off after listening to it going and coming from work for two weeks straight including weekends! Tunes roll in my head all day and I think I may even be able to sing, no, hum along... Distinctive. Terrific.
Free Music Review: Wow, great performer.. Hit: 4 StarsThis cd is great. Nicole came to SF to perform in March when she suffered bronchitis in the morning. After some medication, she came through like a professional, belting out the songs better than the sound of her cd. She opened with Neptune City, and ended with War Torn (as her voice was straining). She promised a return visit - with a 3 hour performance with a Dark Star Jam. Her sounds is unique, her lyrics are fun yet sensitive, and the The Sea backs her with exuberance and pure pleasure. Come back soon to SF!

Free Music Review: I visited Neptune City, and all I got was this great record. Hit: 4 StarsNicole rattles around in the attic of The Crystals, Dusty Springfield, Roy Orbison, and BTR-period Springsteen, and comes up with this stunning record, 10 distinctive songs with sweeping choruses and dense musical beds that is unlike anything else out there. Sounds like the lost soundtrack to "Blue Velvet." Highly recommended.
Free Music Review: Promising talent, but bad production and sound recording Hit: 3 StarsNicole Atkins has a good, unique singing voice. She also shows talent and promise as a songwriter. Overall, this is an interesting album. However, the production and sound engineering on this recording are awful. The overdubbed strings (or synth-strings -- it's impossible to tell) on several tracks drown out the band. And when you can hear them above the vocals and muddy string arrangements, the rest of the band doesn't add much. The sound level is uneven from track to track and the mix is just muddy. Overall 4 stars for promise -- 1 star for the recording quality.
