I had always thought of Nielsen as a rather turgid post-romantic composer. Imagine my surprise when I first heard the Sixth symphony. This recording proved to me that he not only understood the experimental styles of the day, but was able to adapt them and even laugh at them. Brilliant composition! (and perfectly played!)
