It is my understanding that the owner of Chhanda Dhara records has retired and sold out the last of his inventory. All of the Nikhil Banerjee recordings are worth owning. Snap them up now. I am afraid that they will never be reissued onto compact disc. There are very few classical Hindustani discs coming out these days due to the economy and piracy.
These Chhanda Dhara recordings of Nikhil Banerjee appear to all be live performance recordings like the recordings of Banerjee on Raga Records. All of the performances appear to be provided with the permission of Banerjee's estate.
I have all of the Banerjee discs on Chhanda Dhara and on Raga Records. I think that all of them are in very good sound even if it is ocassionally in mono---almost all are stereo. Honestly, you won't notice the difference. The mono recordings are so rich and the music so wonderul that you are simply drawn into the music
As much as I love the playing of Ravi Shankar and respect the playing of Vilayat Khan, Nikhil Banerjee is my favorite sitar player. I really prefer the players from the Maihar school. Ali Akbar Khan, Nikhil Banerjee, and Ravi Shankar are my favorites in their respective instruments.
Do not be discouraged if you do not see all of the Chhanda Dhara and Raga Records discs as new items on Amazon. They are still in print and can be purchased on Amazon Marketplace or Amazon England and Amazon Germany among other sources.
