Free Music Notes for FixedFree Music Review: Good remixes Hit: 4 Stars
This album is not well known, but it contains some great remixes from "Broken".
Free Music Review: Not Completely Fixed Hit: 3 Stars
As the title and rating suggest, this Remix EP of the Broken EP is not quite Fixed. Half of this is good and half of this is almost (but not quite) trash. A lot of the songs drag on a bit and the record hits over 30 minutes. I'll explain in a short overview.
1. Gave up (Remix) 10/10: a really cool and weird take on Gave Up.
2. Wish (Remix) 10/10: imagine a combination of Nine Inch Nails and Blue Man Group. Best song on the album and that would actually be pretty sweet if they got together for collaboration in reality, but this is the closest thing we can get to that.
3. Happiness in Slavery (Remix) 8/10: basically an instrumental remix of the original, still good though.
4. Throw This Away (Remix) 5/10: a weird combination of Suck and Last, it's mainly a elemental kind of feeling, very slow, very calm and quiet but not that great.
5. Fist F**k (Remix) 3/10 a bad remix of Wish, this one sounds like they took segments from the first remix and just F**ked around with them. Once again the instrumental type of thing with samples come makes an appearance. It's unnecessary and it's just bad
6. Screaming Slave (Remix) 2/10: a bad "remix" of Happiness in Slavery, mainly just noise and sound bits thrown together for eight minutes exactly. They probably made this just so they could throw in the audio clip from the Happiness in Slavery video of the man getting tortured. At times it's cool, but mostly not, although I could see some fans using segments of this for a video project of some kind.
My final disappointment with Fixed is the packaging. It's a standard small Digipak. It is not like the unique Digipak found with the Broken EP. Since it's a remix album of Broken, I expected it to be similar, but unfortunately it is the standard cheap version. My disappointment with the packaging doesn't affect the rating, but is just something I felt needed to be said.
So as you can see, the first 3 songs are genius while the last 3 songs are horrid. Definitely not a good place for new NIN fans, but then again, the price is only 6 bucks. You should probably have two or maybe three NIN albums (including the Broken EP) before thinking about buying this. Hoped this helped.
Free Music Review: Starts off powerfully, then gets lost. Hit: 3 Stars
Fixed is certainly the black sheep in the Nine Inch Nails family of Halos; to date it is the only real industrial record Trent Reznor has ever done. It can be a frightening and alienating experience to otherwise adamant Nine Inch Nails fans because it is just so different from any other album--remixes included--in the whole NIN catalogue.
It's still worth anyone's time, though, if they don't mind having to sift through it a bit to figure out what they enjoy. The process is actually not very complicated: the EP's strongest tracks occur at the forefront in the three most direct translations of songs from Broken. The new mix of "Gave Up" is a particularly outstanding version of an already outstanding song. After the first three tracks, however, the enjoyment factor steadily declines. It's hard to call some of what follows real "music" because it is merely a frightening ambience. While "Throw This Away" is a little novel for combining a couple of unexpected tracks from the Broken EP ("Last" and "Suck"), the final two tracks are completely alienating to anyone who isn't a rabid industrial fan. The complexity and mysterious nature of other Nine Inch Nails mixes is replaced by a headlong dedication to the bizarre, and so a lot of what is good about the music disappears.
I would still suggest that a fan of the Broken EP with any interest in this CD go ahead and pick this up. If nothing else, you'll be delighted by what is done with "Gave Up", and if you're new to industrial you might learn a thing or two.
Free Music Review: Somewhat listenable.... Hit: 3 Stars
Let me just be straight with you here...NIN have released MUCH better....MUCH MUCH better remix ep's other than this. Now, this is a listenable cd, BUT alot of songs just seem too damn long and it almost becomes annoying. This was a b*tch for me to find, as I guess it's quite a collectible nowadays, and wouldn't you know it, I came across it in a used cd shop for 3 bucks. I was a tad disappointed when I listened to it through at first but after a while I came to really appreciate the remixes of "Wish" and "Happiness in Slavery" (the other version of Wish, titled "Fist F-ck") actually wound up being in the Resident Evil movie for a second. Pretty bada$$. So, I recommend buying something like "Closer to God" or "Things Falling Apart" and THEN you may buy this one.
Free Music Review: o screaming slave Hit: 3 Stars
I just got the cd today and the first hearing was pretty harsh. I wasnt too thrilled with the last 3 mixes, especially screaming slave. Like most reviews say, screaming slave is basically all noise. There arent many words on these tracks- sounds something that you would hear at a undergound club. I usually like most of trent's work- maybe i will feel differently after a couple more plays. However I know i will def not be listening to screaming slave anytime soon.
I really dont recommend this for someone that is just starting to listen to NIN. This is very raw industrial music
