Free Music Review: There've Been Better, But There've Been Worse
Hit: 3 Stars

ALBUM MIX: I'm not going to bother much with this; we've all heard it, it's a great song, let's hear it for Nine Inch Nails, yay.

STRAIGHT MIX: Interesting extended take on the original, and well-done. There's not much actual remixing - other than the techno beat, the "whispering" and the "horror movie synths" near the bridge (which were great), it stays mostly true to the album version - but that doesn't stop it from being a good listen, and it's just as catchy as the album version. I especially liked when the music mostly drops out in favour of the vocals at 3:53; it was a nice touch, one that probably should've been part of the album cut. Either way, not bad.

DUB MIX: It's a house version. What can be said about that, really? Trent's occasional voice adds something, and the beat and guitar/synth loops are infectious enough with this mix that it doesn't fall COMPLETELY flat... but you're probably not going to want to listen to it too often. Decent.

OVERALL: I'd rather spend my money on Things Falling Apart or Further Down The Spiral, of course... but this was supposed to be a single, not a remix album, and as such, it's not bad. Worth a few quid, but don't bump it to the top of your list.

SIDE NOTE: Trent is SO not fat; my bandmate Aeon and I saw him a few days ago, and he's as ripped as he ever was.

Free Music Review: So-so new single from Trent and co.
Hit: 3 Stars

Like a previous reviewer stated, "The Hand That Feeds" is one of the weaker choices for a single, and the disc itself is sadly rather lacking. The song itself is typical Nine Inch Nails, albeit a bit poppier sounding. However, there were better choices for a single on the upcoming "With Teeth" which would have served better, but the real disappointment here are the remixes. The "Straight Mix" sounds almost identical to the regular version that you are hearing all over the radio right now, while the "Dub Mix" is just plain boring and outstays it's welcome after the first three to five minutes. "The Hand That Feeds" is sadly, a disappointing addition to the NIN singles catalogue, but hopefully "With Teeth" will prove to be worth the long wait since 1999's "The Fragile". Halo collectors will no doubt snatch this up, but don't get your hopes up too high.

Free Music Review: Good choice for new single...
Hit: 3 Stars

However its not typical NIN. Trent obviously wanted something catchy so the kids would be like "OH BOY ITS NIN TIME AGAIN".

Sorry Trent, you lose points in the creative department.

However you gain points for making this so catchy that it never seems to get old.

But you lose points again for 2 crappy remixes.

All in all, decent song, bad remixes = okay single.

Free Music Review: Eh.....
Hit: 2 Stars

I'm forced to agree with disclaimer777 on this one. But I'd go for a double cheeseburger, myself... or if I were in Cali. then maybe some Carls JR! Either way, it seems that TR is getting lazy. Although this one isn't quite as bad as Head like a Hole [US Version], it's pretty close. "The Hand that Feeds" is just an "eh..." song, and it comes with an "eh.." remix. Overall, I suppose that would make this an "eh..." single. For the casual NIN fan, I would suggest you just skip the single and buy[WITH_TEETH] when it comes out or one of the earlier albums instead. But if you're like me, and have to have it all, then I guess you'll just have to get it, won't you?

Free Music Review: terrible. NIN is dead.
Hit: 1 Stars

i've been a NIN fin since spring 1990. PHM, broken and TDS are absolutely pure genius. but unfortunately NIN is dead.

track 1: terrible disco rock with wussy falsetto
track 2: best track on the album
track 3: creepy piano is cool, everything else terrible
track 4: bad disco rock wannabe song with a dull music video
track 5: the live version (fresno bootleg) is great, but the studio version is bad
track 6: mediocre song
track 7: mediocre song
track 8: this is the worst song i've heard in years. a 12 year old could've written it with a casio and $40 drum machine. turn on the disco ball and puke.
track 9: catchy but mediocre
track 10: terrible
track 11: okay song
track 12: boring, repetitive, waste of time
track 13: okay song but predictable
nonLP "home": mediocre song
photek remixes: terrible

if a new band released this album, nobody would ever hear more than about 2 minutes of it before it got tossed aside and ignored, but since it's NIN it will go to #1 and people will say it's great but quite frankly it's terrbile, uninspired, cliche, boring and proves trent is completely out of ideas. trent could put jewelry in a blender, record it for 79 minutes and it would still sell a million copies so go buy it anyway because you know you will. but the days of good NIN is long gone. and pick up the expensive vinyl and dualdisc and canada CD5 and german CD5 and japanese album and spend $200. within a few months you won't even be listening to it anymore but hey it's your money not mine.
