Free Music Review: Awesome Album
Hit: 5 Stars

This is an awesome compilation of some of nirvana's live shows. We've all heard amazing live recordings of all of their songs and this album gives a chance at hearing some of them, but also at hearing some of their earlier work, such as breed. The highlights of the album have to be Aneurysm, Lithium and Teen Spirit, one of the best live recordings of it ive heard. Some of the reviewers on here really have no idea what they are talking about, sure some of the vocals sound a bit rough and some, and only some, of the instrumentation is a bit lacking compared to the studio versions, but these were recorded live and are full of emotion and power.

Kurt's vocals suit the live versions perfectly contrary again to some of the reviewers on here, do they not realise that the 'rough' sounding voice of kurt was nirvana's style and most songs would sound lame if they were sang in any other way.

All in all this is a great album containing some of the very best of their live work and well worth buying. I would advise to listen to studio versions before you listen to this, as very well suggested by a previous reviewer, in order to appreciate the live versions.

Lastly, the dude who said 'They ruined a great song' in relation to breed..this version was recorded in 1988, prior to the song even being called breed, and at least 3 years prior to the final 'breed' being released that we all know and love, ergo saying they 'ruined' a great song really doesnt make sense and just emphasises your determination to needlessly criticise their later work

Free Music Review: Nirvana: Live And In Your Face!
Hit: 5 Stars

The Amazon critic has it wrong: the chorus on "School" is "No recess," NOT "Don't be sad"! Now that we've got that cleared up....It is well documented that Nirvana could be very scattershot live in concert, usually depending on the mental & physical health of troubled singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain. On a bad night, the band could be very ragged and sloppy, even rude---some nights, they wouldn't even play their big hit, "Smells Like Teen Spirit," much to the dismay of their audience. But on a GOOD night---and there were quite a few of those, too---Nirvana were powerful, rockin' monsters. "From The Muddy Banks of The Wishkah" captures Nirvana live in concert on the various GOOD nights they had over the years, with the live tracks recorded between 1989 and 1994. Nirvana blast through 16 songs, featuring some signature tunes like "Teen Spirit" and "Lithium," as well as some lesser-known songs like "Spank Thru" and "Blew." The band sound incredible, with Cobain, bassist Krist Noveselic and drummer Dave Grohl interlocked together like a three-headed rock beast (though on some tracks, guitarist Pat Smear joins the trio, and original drummer Chad Channing is featured on a couple of tracks instead of Grohl). This is raw, in-your-face, take-no-prisoners rock of the highest order, with no bad performances anywhere, and the louder you can play this CD, the better. "From The Muddy Banks Of The Wishkah" is a brilliant document of what Nirvana could do live in concert on the nights when they *really* gave it everything they had. No Nirvana fan should go without this awesome live set.

Free Music Review: Passionate, Angry, Unpolished
Hit: 5 Stars

I'll preface this review by noting that my favorite Nirvana album - and I'm sure I'm not alone in this - is "MTV's Unplugged in NYC." That album is notably softer (in volume and energy) than this one, but "From the Muddy Banks" still scores a solid five stars.

The tracks are taken from various live concerts, and here's where buying a hard copy rather than a digital one comes in handy: Krist Novoselic (Cobain's long-time friend and music partner) provides great narrative commentary in the liner notes, identifying the concert dates and locations for the songs as well as providing context of the band's relative success/obscurity for the 1989-1994 time frame it covers. The songs themselves are raw, unpolished, and fueled by the energy of the audience. A word of warning: Nirvana concerts typically involved a lot of screaming by both the band and the audience, but don't be turned off by the messy noise of the intro. A little perseverance will bring you a few tracks in and the lyrics/sound that changed rock (how many bands, even today in 2007, still sound like a second-rate version of Nirvana?) will hook you.

This is not the album for someone just becoming acquainted with Nirvana, but you don't have to be a hardcore fan to enjoy it either. Kurt Cobain wrote catchy, angry, passionate songs and his love of music (if not fame) was most evident in his live performances. It's absolutely impossible to listen to the CD without finding your feet moving a little.

Free Music Review: great album(unknown too)
Hit: 5 Stars

Ten years without Kurt cobain and his music still lives. This concert was recorded ten years back, and the cd quality for a live album is amazing. In this album you heir songs from all nirvana albums. They perform their songs so well; it's like your hearing the recorded. Without the crowd going yeah and it wont sound that well. Like it wont sound exactly like it but it's still pretty cool. This live record is also kind of unknown, like not a lot of people no about this album. The sound of Dave Grohls drumming, the sound of Krist Noveselics base, and the guitar and voice of Kurt Cobain, makes an incredible band and makes a great live performance by 3 guys from Seattle.

In this album you heir what some people say is better than the original recording is the version of Tourette's. Which I think the original recording of Tourette's. This album you can like the songs they perform in this album better than the recording of the original. In this album the song I like better than the recording is "Lithium". I like this version better, so for as "smells like teen spirit". This is a very must if you are a true hardcore Nirvana fans. You will not regret buying this great live album.

Free Music Review: An intelligent introduction to Nirvana...
Hit: 5 Stars

Originally intended to be released as a double cd along with "Unplugged: Live in NY," this album is THE perfect way for anyone interested in Nirvana to start their collection. As Krist says in the liner notes, "Nirvana started as a live band..." This CD is an excellent sampling of Nirvana's canon in their element...the stage. There is an added slice of attitude in these live versions of the songs that solidify what Nirvana was about. Several songs on the album stand shoulder-to-shoulder with their studio versions if not better. Several I enjoy listening to more than the studio cuts. The best part about "Wishka" is the track selection: you can tell that a true fan compiled this cd (instead of say the greatest hits cd)...hits like Lithium and Heart-Shaped Box are found along side Blew and Spank Thru...spanning the band's career from Bleach to Utero. In conclusion, anyone who is genuinely interested in getting into this great band should pick this album up before Nevermind and (definitely) before the greatest hits album and the real Nirvana fans would miss an integral part of what Nirvana was about without it.
