Free Music Notes for From the Muddy Banks of the WishkahFree Music Review: Great live recording... Hit: 5 Stars
There are are few things that can match the force of a live recording, and this album does not disappoint. The sound is just amazing, making me wonder what would be of this album if it were a studio recording and not live.I don't think it would be as amazing. Raw intensity, the power played in the chords, emotion poured out in the songs, this album is what really made Nirvana one of my favorite bands. Sure, they had the break-through success with Nevermind, and gained some more recognition with In Utero, developed the fanbase with Incesticide, and then there was always "Bleach", all of which are represented, including a song (which to my knowledge) was not previously released, Spank Thru. In the liner notes, Krist says that Spank Thru was the first actual Nirvana song. So, all in all, if you are into live recordings, dig Nirvana, are a Nirvana completist, or just want some good music, get this album in the near future.
Free Music Review: Here we are now....... Hit: 5 Stars
Let me get staight to the point, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is the greatest song ever. Live though, it's beyond perfect, more like sonic perfection at it's best. I'm sure everyone's heard it by now (smack yourself if not), but the song is a lot more faster than the "Nevermind" version. The guitar solo makes your jaw drop. And to think, that's only one song. Some of these songs come of wonderful here like "Heart Shaped Box" and "Negative Creep". Others didn't, like "Milk It" and "Scentless Apprentice". The majority did though, even if Kurt's voice comes off raspy remember, this is punk. Or is it grunge? Maybe alternative? Who cares, it's brilliant. This and "MTV Unplugged" are all you need. Nirvana still rock like nobody's business, I'll never forget Kurt and co. Let me just shut up, so the reader can stop reading and click that button above, do so now.

Dude, before you go on to bash Cobain's vocal abilities, you should get yourself a copy of "unplugged in New York". It'll make a believer outta you. Kurt's voice was genuine and brilliant. His covers for Bowie, vaselines, meatpuppets etc. were so much better than the originals. Radio stations nation wide played "man who sold the world" for weeks after the taping!! I can tell that your not a really a grunge or alt rock fan. Muddy banks is a perfect demonstration as to how these songs were supposed to be performed. Nirvana had always wanted their music to be raw and full of emotion. Granted, kurt was probably high on heroin during most of these performances, but you can't deny his inherent talent and vocal abilities. If you want polished and pretty vocals, you should check out "unplugged", which is in my opinion the greatest live album of all time.
Free Music Review: After listening to bootlegs for years, Wishkah sounds great Hit: 5 Stars
I have been collecting many Nirvana bootlegs since before Kurt's death all the way up to today. As a collector, I am very well versed with Nirvana live performances and I can say that compared to many of their shows, this collection is quite good. The sound quality is way above the average bootleg, plus the performances aren't too shabby. Favorite cuts are School and Aneurysm, which have been throttled to hypnotic guitar-grinders that show the true sonic force of Nirvana. I wish they would have included some of the material from the famous 2/22/94 Rome show, as well as the very rare versions of HSB and Rape Me with complete guitar solos. If you want to hear a sample of the best live band in history, get Wishkah. If you REALLY want to hear them, get the coveted Vienna '89, Rome '94, or any other good beginning-to-end live show.
Free Music Review: Great Live Album Hit: 5 Stars
This CD is great. It really shows Nirvana's raw power. Sure these live songs are somewhat sloppily played, and the song selection could be better. But that's the beauty of the album: It's Nirvana just playing their music with reckless abandon. It's really incredible and quite entertaining to listen to the songs on the CD. Take the version of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" on this CD. It's incredibly fast and sounds nothing like it did on Nevermind. But that's why its great: Kurt Cobain is just ripping out the guitar riff, putting his whole heart into the song. Really powerful stuff. Hearing "Polly" live is truely amazing- it sent shivers down my spine. Pick this album up- it just shows Kurt and his band playing music, ripping up the tracks, and maybe even having fun.
