Free Music Notes for IncesticideFree Music Review: Essential Nirvana Hit: 5 Stars
In my opinion, this is the best Nirvana-album available. It's always referred to as "a tossed-off left-over album", but the fact is, nirvana is at heart a "tossed-off" band. As is evidenced in the last interviews Cobain gave in his life-time, all the band wanted to do was recording their favourite music, and he thought that media-pressure ruined that. This album, and the live-set Muddy Banks Of The Wishkah, contains the spontaneouty that somehow managed to be a bit absent from their regular albums. Nevermind was undoubtly a magnificent effort, but, as with Bleach, it sounds as if the band knew they had to prove themselves. On In Utero, the band spend too much energy in the fight against the media, sounding like a parody of themselves and leaving a bland, forced album in the process. This is the only album on which they sound like they're really having fun, not caring about what others may think of it because it wasn't recorded (well, most of it) with a genuine album in mind. The BBC-sessions are unbeatable, the Dive/Sliver-single is splendid latter-day punkrock, and the Bleach-leftovers sound like they were meant to be on this album. Even the Fecal Matters-cut Mexican Seafood from 1986 shows full potential, being made 2 years before Bleach hit the streets! Ofcourse this collection isn't complete, but it sounds like it was meant to be this way, it sounds perfect while it's on and maybe 1 cut more would have ruined the enterprise. And if you think this album is totally uncommercial: Listen to Dive, a track that screams "Nevermind"!
Free Music Review: Great B-side collection. Hit: 5 Stars
This is probably one of the best Nirvana CDs you can purchase. You get 15 B-side tracks for under 14.99! Lets take a look at the tunes shall we...1.Dive. This is one of my favorite Nirvana songs. Just can't get that chorus out of your head. 10/10 2.Sliver. Great fast driven song. 10/10 3.Stain. Pretty good. This is not one of my favorites though. 8/10 4.Been A Son. This song grows and grows on you the more you listen. Great song. 10/10 5.Turnaround. Good cover of a Devo song. 9/10 6.Molly's Lips. One of my favorites. Really fast and entertaining. A cover of a Vaselines song. 10/10 7.Son Of A Gun. This is my favorite song on the album. A cover of a Vaselines song. 10/10 8.(New Wave) Polly. Interesting song. Basically a really fast version of Polly. Not bad at all. 9/10 9.Beeswax. An okay song. Not much to say. 8/10 10.Downer. This is also on most versions of the Bleach album. Very fast. You can't really understand the lyrics, but I like this one. 9/10 11.Mexican Seafood. Pretty good. Similar to Beeswax, but a little better in my opinion. 8.5/10 12.Hairspray Queen. Very interesting song. A bit strange. 8.5/10 13.Aero Zeppelin. Not much to say about this one. 8/10 14.Big Long Now. Okay song. Again not my favorite. Pretty slow. 8/10 15.Aneurysm. Here we go! Probably ties with Son Of A Gun for the "best song of the album" honors. Just great. 10/10 Well there you have it. If you like Kurt and Nirvana you should pick this up if you don't already have it.
Free Music Review: incesticide gave me an aneurysm Hit: 5 Stars
This was nirvana's unheard of album. I was amazed at the first time I heard it. Incesticide introduced me to punk rock. The first 3 songs are amazing. The first song Dive, makes you want to dive into him because kurt is begging you to and forcing you to sing with him. Sliver was in my opinion Nirvana's popiest song. I find myself singing it over and over again even though I have not played the album in weeks, because I fear that I'm going to play the album out of listening comprehension. Stain is a favorite of mine because of the lyrics, hearing him sing "I'm a stain" makes me feel like im not the only waste of space in this world. The album loses it's edge for a while in the middle. Nirvana does their cover of the vaselines and then does a new wave version of Polly which is much faster and better than their previous effort on Nevermind. The songs start to drift into grunge and the lyrics get better. Big Long Now was a heavy song, it was my favorite during the first time i listened to it, until I reached Aneurysm. Aneurysm is my favorite hardcore song. Although most wouldn't consider it to be hardcore because it isn't a repetitive, generate, punk song. This was the song that blew me away and I am still moved with each listen. Incesticide was my favorite album, it would still be my favoritealbum even if Dive, Sliver and Aneurysm were the only songs on it.
Free Music Review: incesticide of the mind Hit: 5 Stars
I actually recieved this cd as a birthday gift in 1995. I had never been into Nirvana, and really only knew them for their singles. It took me a while to warm up to "Incesticide" but after a few listens I was totally hooked. Released after their big album "Nevermind", "Incesticide" is an album that returns to the roots of Nirvana. It features b-sides and older Nirvana songs made long before "Nevermind". In some ways this album is better than Nevermind, it isn't as glossy or polished. Standout tracks are "Dive", "Sliver", "Stain", "Been A Son", "Aero Zeppelin" and a harder version of "Polly" as well as the classic - "Aneurysm". They also do a great cover of the Vaselines' "Molly's Lips" and "Son of a Gun" - not to mention a cover of Devo's "Turnaround". I also love the bouncy bass on "Hairspray Queen". And I have to mention Kurt makes psychotic sounding ramblings fun - in songs like "Beeswax" and "Mexican Seafood" - I think he's the only man that could pull it off and make it simply rock. Either way, this album is great. Its like Nirvana in the raw, as many of these songs were recorded before Nirvana exploded into the mainstream. Just a great b-sides album with just as great previously unreleased stuff. And if you do one thing, read Kurt's liner notes on the album- they're pretty interesting.
Free Music Review: A truly great compilation Hit: 5 Stars
This is my second favourite Nirvana record (after Bleach). It's a compilation of various outtakes, b-sides, and also BBC radio sessions. The album opens in fantastic style, with the super-rockin' "Dive", followed by (in my opinion) the best ever Nirvana song, "Sliver" (which is totally unlike anything else they did). From then on, the album is split into two distinct halves. The first half is very happy, cheerful stuff, with a whole lot of covers (some from The Vaselines, and a brilliant Devo cover). This is Nirvana at their most happy. The second half is mostly Bleach-outtakes, and so is a lot heavier and not so friendly to the listener. It also sees Kurt messing around a lot with his voice, trying out different stuff. It takes a while to get into the second half of the album, but it's well worth it. There is some great music going down here. "Beeswax", "Mexican Seafood" and "Hairspray Queen" all have killer tunes. Check out the bassline on "Hairspray Queen" - I love that damn bassline! "Downer" is a great song, which is also the last track on the Bleach CD. "Beeswax" has some potentially-very-crazy-and-cool lyrics. All in all, this is a really great grab-bag of stuff. Lots of cool songs - Buy it!
