Free Music Notes for IncesticideFree Music Review: Great album; it's not your average compilation... Hit: 5 Stars
This IS an essential Nirvana album. The compilations made for so many bands are just greatest hits. The songs on Incesticide are all outtakes and b-sides so your not just getting a rehash of other albums, which in my opinion makes this just as important as an other true "album". Some of my favourite Nirvana songs appear here, like Hairspray Queen, a song meant to ridicule the "hairspray queen" eighties glam metal guys that Cobain hated so much, I don't usually pay attention to this songs lyrics; his vocals are just so amazing on this song. Whether you're a diehard fan or a beginner, this album is a winner. This is a good album to start on, because you won't be biased by any one particular sound, since the songs are from different periods in Kurt's life, and starting on Nevermind, like most people did, doesn't give a full example of the Nirvana experience. On a side note, Kurt Cobain was one of, if not the, greatest song coverers ever. I know of no one that could take a song written by someone else and make it there own with more ease and likeability, except maybe Hendrix in the case of All Along The Watchtower. All in all this is a great view of Nirvana's musical underbelly. Buy it.
Free Music Review: Not Their Best, But Still Blows Away All The Derivative Drivel Hit: 5 Stars
Have you worn out the grooves of your NEVERMIND CD? Do you recite MTV UNPLUGGED IN NEW YORK in your sleep? Then it's time to take a look at INCESTICIDE if you still haven't. True, this collection of out-takes and B-sides doesn't quite measure up to one of their "official" albums, but it's still Nirvana - and "pretty good" Nirvana is still way better than the best stuff from most of their imitators. INCESTICIDE shows you different sides of Nirvana - including a warped sense of humor.
Most of this record rocks really hard. That's certainly true of the Meat Puppets nod "Son of a Gun," and the old school stomp of "Aero Zeppelin." "Dive" is one of the best and kinda freaky the way Kurt sounds as if he's screaming "Die with me!" instead of "Dive with me!" Kurt really conveyed a lot not only with his lyrics but also his tortured guitar. His guitar was expressive, anguished and cutting and that's apparent on this album.
You can definitely get your Nirvana on here. Blows away most bands who were influenced by "grunge" (to use the media-generated label). That's not to say that there aren't tons of great bands out there who were influenced by Nirvana. But there's only one Nirvana.
Free Music Review: The most underrated album of the 90's Hit: 5 Stars
This was sort of a make-money-fast album after the monumental success of Nirvana's first major record, Nevermind. However, because it was labled a collectors-only record from the get-go, it didn't sell too well and got absolutley no credit for anything, and it is likely that In Utero's sales (the "real" follow-up to Nevermind) suffered because of this. If you take the time to listen to this record that is stuffed to the top with Nirvana, you'll find that it really is the most underrated album of the 90's. Songs like "Been a Son", "Sliver", and the briliant Vaselines cover "Molly's Lips" give a lighter, more loveable teenage anguish feel to the LP. On the other hand, "Hairspray Queen" and "Mexican Seafood" restore the Nirvana that everyone knows and loves, loud, direct, real. However, without question, the best song on the album is "Aneurysm". It's raw, outright feel captures every aspect of Nirvana, while giving off a patented Kurt Cobain glow. If you are a Nirvana fan or just a grunge fan looking to remind you of the greatest years in music since the british Invasion, buy this album. R.I.P. Kurt Cobain.
Free Music Review: One of Nirvana's best! Hit: 5 Stars
It's a shame nobody has really heard Bleach or Incesticide. Both are better than Nevermind and In Utero in my opinion. This shows the true side of what punk and Nirvana really is. Dive starts off the CD great with the bass starting the song off. Then you work your way to the cover Turnaround that Devo originally did. A great song! Then 2 covers that were done by The Vaselines. Molly's Lips is a great song that Nirvana did better than The Vaselines in my opinion. Son of a Gun lyric wise odd but neat, and once again Kurt and Nirvana shined through again. With songs like (New Wave) Polly, Aero Zeppelin, and Aneurysm this brings out the true Nirvana. (New Wave) Polly is even better than the one on Nevermind. A hell of a lot faster and cooler. Aero Zeppelin has lots of tempo changes which is pure genius by Kurt. Has it's SLAYER moments! Aneurysm is the best song on the entire CD in my opinion. The lyrics are just funny, but awesome, and the way it goes from heavy distortion to clean then back to distortion. Aneurysm is also a great cover to do if your in a band! Really great stuff. This is truely a great album. If you like this one go out and buy Bleach as well!
Free Music Review: Most Under-rated Nirvana Album Hit: 5 Stars
As I look over some of the reviews i'm suprised at how low the rating of this album is. I suppose most out-take compilations albums are not as critically acclaimed but i feel this one shows the true Nirvana. Like most compilation albums the songs are not as polished as a regular release but this works very well for Nirvana since their music isn't meant to be over-produced anyway. I also like this album because it has songs on it that weren't meant to be big number 1 hits. Although the whole album is great, I prefer the latter half of the album (tracks 9-15). I especially like two songs you would never could hear on Nevermind,"Mexican Seafood" and "Aero Zeppelin". It is a bit like their debut, Bleach, but with a little more maturity (i guess thats the word i'm looking for). This album also has great liner notes from Kurt (or Kurdt) Cobain himself. Of all the Nirvana albums (yes, even Nevermind included) this is their best sounding. It is not untill now, in this drought of good music, that i realize how much i miss the music of Kurt Cobain. Incesticide maybe not be as chart topping as Nevermind but for my money, this is the one to get.
