Free Music Review: Buried Treasure
Hit: 5 Stars

First off being born in 87, I didn't get a chance to go to any nirvana gigs. But years later I discovered Nirvana, the music that helped influence what we have today. I own all of the their records except for the imports and singles and the singles box. When I heard about the box set was to be released I was like alright it's about time. I went out and reserved it a few days later when I got my next paycheck!
Another Thing is that I am tired of all of these people complaining about the quality of some of the recordings on this boxed set. I think you guys are really missing the point. Who knows how many other unreleased stuff is out there. Hopefully in the future I'll be able to hear more of it. The most interesting and one of my favorites from the box is do re mi which was recorded weeks before kurts death. The song is really amazing, it has that beatles touch to it, this could of been the future of something new. And there is a possibility that there could of been similar recordings like that or other versions of that song out there. This box set is only the begining of a large collection that is locked up in the vault. This box is not a form of closure for me, for me it opens up some new revalations on the band that has never been heard of before.
So if you are really a true nirvana fan you would buy this boxed set regardless of the quality of some of the recordings.

Free Music Review: But son! what if this band nirvana makes me sick if i listen
Hit: 5 Stars

Hello, my name is james ,i am a fan of good music ,grunge. I grew up in a small town here in west virginia that is much like aberdeen washington, (the place where kurt grew up).its all ways raining here or snowing , there is nothing to do here really but play music.I play and right music most of the day. Now that i dont have a job i have a lot more time to practice and rehearse songs. im the vocalist and left handed guitarist in a three piece band. Much like nirvana ,they were a three piece band for most of their career. only trouble is we cant decide on a name for the band.. and now its finally happened, they released the new nirvana box set, this set has a lot of demos and not the best recordings, but you cant be a true nirvana fan unless you listen to there demos or live shows. Most people dont even know there is more nirvana music out there then just nevermind. Yhey think they are going to be the next big rock stars and be like nirvana when in truth most of these people only have the album nevermind. So now the point i am trying to get across is explore into the music that changed rock forever, dont just listen to smells like teen spirit over and over, buy the new box set with the lights out and explore, hell who knows maybe you will realize the impact nirvana actually did have on music.
and remember buy with the lights out the nirvana box set.

Free Music Review: A raw strip of heaven in a box...
Hit: 5 Stars

If you aren't a fan of Nirvana, then this is the wrong item to buy. However, if you're as much a fan as I am, then you'll cherish this box set.

Be forewarned that most of these tracks lack the polish of a major studio production... some of them are so rough it's hard to believe they come from the same band that set the music world on fire. "With the Lights Out" is best viewed as supplementary material to the albums Nirvana already released. It may not sound as poppy as "Smells Like Teen Spirit" or as heavy as "In Utero," but the passion Kurt had for his music is evident throughout, resulting in a raw display of grit and evolving musical sensibility, even in the early years when he was a nobody.

It's all there, from "Heartbreakers" (their very first live performance when they had no experience whatsoever) to "Do Re Mi" (a touching, acoustic performance by Kurt in his kitchen at the twilight of his life) to DVD footage of several live shows -- including a tender rendition of "Seasons in the Sun" (in which Kurt plays drums, Krist guitar, and Dave bass).

Forget about studio quality... this isn't what the box set is about. If you're a true fan, then this is definitely the item to get. All you'll gain is new insight, plus an apprecation for what it takes for a band to reach their peak.

Free Music Review: A Truly Amazing Listen
Hit: 5 Stars

I honestly don't know how the more casual Nirvana fan would react to this album. I can only review it from the perspective of a nearly-rabid fan. Nirvana was the band that saved me from the monotony of boyband fandom, and turned me on to real music. They completely changed the course of rock-and-roll, mostly for the better. They were definitly about the music, not the image. Kurt was a man like his songs, a jumble of contridictions, but he loved music above all else, and was terrified of "selling out".

Anyway, I digress. For the true Nirvana fan, this set is a godsend, an invigorating yet haunting collection that showcases both the character and versitility of the band. It is so satisfying to listen to the band grow, and to hear Kurt's writing mature through the years. The most recent recording are indead the most beautiful and the most saddening, as we get a glimpse of what may have been. Soundgarden and Alice in Chains are both great bands, but neither could ever compare to the strength and talent of Nirvana, who truly defined an age.

For those not so familiar with Nirvana, I would recommend purchasing 'Nevermind' and 'MTV Unplugged' before spending the money on this album. However, I'm fairly certain a great deal of you will be back for this one soon. Well worth the money!

Free Music Review: I know I'm right!
Hit: 5 Stars

Good one! Long awaited release at last is out! "With the Lights out" truly talks about the life of Nirvana. If you are a commercial listener, who enjoys "Smells Likes Teen Spirit", this is not for you!

If you are a hardcore fan-don't think twice. Go, grab it now!!

This album captures the essence of Nirvana much better that any other release. I see their earlier albums as barely breaking the surface of Nirvana. "With the Lights out" allows the listener to experience how great a band they really were!

The disc 1 may be annoying with some bad sound in the background. But as a true Nirvana fan, I'm sure, you are going to enjoy the raw grunge. Of course Nirvana was still tuning its sound, like any other new band.

Disc 3 is the actual professional Nirvana that we see around! So emotional Kurt was when he sang "You Know You're Right". You will go crazy!

"Do Re Mi" is the highlight of this set. Recorded only weeks before Kurt's death, this is a masterpiece. His voice is rough on it. Its one of the greatest songs Kurt had even written, and it deserves to be heard

The DVD and box set has the studio performance of "Seasons in the Sun", with Kurt on drums, Dave on bass, and Novoselic on guitar. Kurt is smiling! It's hard to see Kurt smiling! Man, It's definitely sad and sweet!

Over all a must buy and 5/5.
