Free Music Notes for Rock SteadyFree Music Review: No Doubt, Steady Rockers! Hit: 5 Stars
No Doubt releases their fifth studio, once again reinventing their stuff with a different style of music. No Doubt has never been classified as one type of music band; they're always trying different elements to please themselves and the fans as well. Once again, Rock Steady is no exception. The album sucks you in with the beginning intro. We haven't seen an intro into a No Doubt CD since the self-titled back in 1992. Next up is a rock song about lust, "Hella Good," which is the next potential single off the 2001 release. "Hey Baby," a reggae/dancehall track, is the current single about boys and girls hitting on each other backstage at No Doubt's concerts. "Making Out" is a self-explanatory track, tinged with synthpop and disco elements. Next up is "Underneath It All," a love song that is definitely an album highlight. "Detective" is a ballad about a distrustful lover, catching her man with someone else. "Don't Let Me Down" brings No Doubt fans back to No Doubt's classic new wave feel from previous albums (ie: "Just a Girl" from Tragic Kingdom and "Six Feet Under" from Return of Saturn). Personally, this is one of my favorite tracks from the new album. It's produced by former Car member, Rick Ocasak. "Start the Fire" is a reggae song about beginning a new relationship and burning the previous, where "Running" is a ballad that sounds like an old Nintendo theme song, which is another standout track. "Platinum Blonde Life" is a hardrock/new wave song, that can be compared to one that Garbage would do. "Waiting Room" is No Doubt's collaborating with the Artist, Prince. Another album highlight, as well as the title track, "Rock Steady." Overall, once again, No Doubt at their finest. They never fail to please the fans. A must buy for any fan of No Doubt or a new fan.
Free Music Review: Another good job by ND Hit: 5 Stars
I've been a fan of No Doubt for about four years now, and they're the best.Intro - 10/10 - Though it's only 27 seconds long, it's still a pretty good opener. Hella Good - 9/10 - Everytime I hear this song, I imagine myself in a club, the only lights shining are the strobe lights. No one is sitting down or lounging. And during the chorus, everyone jumps up and down. Hey Baby - 10/10 - ALWAYS fun to dance to. The video is awesome too. I love the way in the beginning, the words Hey Baby comes out of Gwen's and Adrian's mouths, like the catepillar from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Making Out - 9/10 - Great song to make out to. ;) =P Underneath it All - 10/10 - I could listen to this song for HOURS when it rains. Lie on my bed, curtains open and watch the rain fall as this song plays. Detective - 10/10 - One of my favorites. I could imagine how the video could go with this song. Gwen is the detective, checking up on her boyfriends: Tom, Tony, and Adrian, seeing them with other girls. But, the thing is, they're cheating on her with others while she's cheating on them with each other. It's more elaborate in my mind than that, but that's the gist of it. Don't Let Me Down - 10/10 - A very good song to listen to when you're just feeling good. =) Start the Fire - 10/10 - Another one of my favorites. It's another good song to dance to. Running - 10/10 - I love the way the song starts out. Sounds like a video game. It's another good rainy day song. In My Head - 9/10 - Actually quite a depressing song. Especailly, with the gun shot at the end. =( Platinum Blonde Life - 10/10 - I just could see a video for this song. Gwen dressed like Joan Jett, standing on a jukebox, hold a chain as she sang. Waiting Room - 10/10 - I have no idea what to say about this song. It's kinda weird, but good. Rock Steady - 10/10 - A great way to end this CD. I love this song.
Free Music Review: A great millenium comeback for No Doubt Hit: 5 Stars
After 1995's undisputed breakthrough "Tragic Kingdom", it was almost inevitable that attempting a similarly-awesome follow-up would be a challenge. Unfortunately, it was a challenge No Doubt simply could not overcome with "Return of Saturn". The 2000 release was a universal disappointment (even for non-traditional-rock fans like me, whom they scored with the '95 release). But this album, is a masterpiece all in itself.
When "Rock Steady" was released, I was so excited, so proud of the group for coming back with such a smash as this. It had people and critics who were formerly negative saying "Return of What???" "Rock Steady" hit the pop/hip-hop/dance chord with unexpected greatness, and easily surpassed other unmentionable 2001 releases. From start to finish, it is a uniform, cohesive set of songs that tackle the emerging hip-hop sound of the new millenium with candy-coated melodies and production that spells out pure perfection.
With a slew of notable producers (Pharrell & Chad are on here, so is Nellie Hooper, who would later spice up Gwen's solo debut), this album is their best group work yet. From the irrestible stellar beat of "Hella Good" to the smooth lullaby-like love chant "Running," to the millenium-sparkled, updated ska-punk sound of "Don't Let Me Down," there is something special about each track. There is an evident confidence on this album, on songs like the seductive, trance-laced "Making Out," the Jamaican-funky "Hey Baby," and the suggestive, out of this world "Start the Fire." That confidence -- that 'self-assuredness' -- may have just been the element that was missing from 2000's "Saturn". If there was ever a good time for No Doubt to enter back into the pop mainstream, it was with this release. And the quartet did it with unmatched expertise -- and created a danceable, unforgettable jam session of an album.

Ive been a fan of No Doubts music ever since I heard just a girl on the radio in 95. There was something about that singer in the band. After enjoying "just a girl I quickly rushed out and bought TRAGIC KINGDOM, not knowing that it would be a massive success. Anyway Ive been a fan ever since and ROCK STEADY doesnt disappoint. Sure, its way different than anything No Doubts ever done before but its called GROWTH people! You cant expect a band to keep putting out the same old music with each new album. That being said ROCK STEADY was a nice surprise for me. I think its their best work since TRAGIC KINGDOM. RETURN OF SATURN was a too dull and too serious for this band. This CD is more up-beat, fun, and as Gwen puts it; its called being in a good mood. Thats exactly what youll get with this album. The music is a little looser and Gwens lyrics are a bit more clever and fun. ROCK STEADY even incorporates (dare I say it) some 80s flair on tracks like hella good, making out and dont let me down. No Doubt is best known for their signature rock/ska sound. Now theyve taken out most of the rock and brought in more reggae/dance-hall arrangements on songs like hey baby, underneath it all and start the fire. ROCK STEADY pops more than it rocks but theres still one rock number here. Platinum blonde life sounds like a RETURN OF SATURN outtake. Surprisingly its one of the weaker tracks on here. Start to finish, ROCK STEADY delivers. Think of it as No Doubt having a good time after the slump of RETURN OF SATURN. Gwen, Tony, Tom, and Adrian havent lost it, theyve just channeled their creative sound into a more fun, up-beat, easy-going, place. I really like this CD and its defiantly one that you can play without skipping any tracks. Weather poppin or rockin, this CD is awesome.

"Rock Steady" is the 4th No Doubt album. The EXTREMELY catchy CD is actually pretty good; i've been a fan for a long time and it's okay. i graded the songs with letter grades, so her it goes.1) intro- this is basically just the chorus to "rock steady." A 2) hella good- i don't like this song too much, it's kinda dark and too long. B 3) hey baby- this is the first EXTREMELY catchy song, and it's great to dance to. A 4) making out- another EXTREMELY catchy song should be a single; actually they all could be singles. anyway, the song is great. A+ 5) underneath it all- i think this song starts out at a Jamaican radio station, then it turns into "underneath it all," then turns back to the radio station. weird, but fun! A 6) detective- one of my favs off this album, it could make a great video. A+ 7) don't let me down- this and "platinum blonde life" stole the melody from some 90's rock song, but the melodies were so good, and the lyrics so fresh, that you don't care! my fav. A+ 8) start the fire- okay, this song starts out VERY strange, but turns into an electronic/reggae mix of rock. A 9) running- long, draggy... B- 10) in my head- my 2nd fave. somewhat original, and great to sing along to. ends horribly! A+ though. 11) platinum blonde life- this song is pretty good, but it sounds too much like a green day or barenaked ladies song. A 12) waiting room- if the ending wasn't that okay, then this would have failed my grading scheme. C- 13) rock steady- the traditional no doubt, 5 1/2 minute long song! this song is VERY take-your-time. A overall, no doubt has made a (i wouldn't say different...) new album with great music and EXTREMELY catchy choruses and verses from Gwen.
