Free Music Notes for Rock SteadyFree Music Review: Gwen Stefani: Rock Goddess! Hit: 5 Stars
After reading several bad reviews of this album I just had to write my own. First off, to those who say that Rock Steady is repetitive; are you sure you have a NO DOUBT album called Rock Steady? I fail to see the repetition on it. Every song has a distinct start, middle and end to it. I have no clue what you've been listening to, but it's not No Doubt. Second, to those who don't like the upbeat happy sound to it; get over it! Gwen writes what she's feeling at the time and apparently she was feeling very happy when she wrote the lyrics to Rock Steady unlike Tragic Kingdom where she was airing her heartbreak over her failed relationship with bandmate Tony Kanal. There is only one track on this album that I don't like very much and that is Waiting Room(and I can even listen to it if I'm too lazy to skip it). Just don't like the sound, but I love all the other songs because of the different sound of them all. They're great songs to relax to or to dance to. Stand out tracks for me are Detective, Start The Fire, In My Head and Rock Steady. I love the beats, the words and Gwen gives awesome vocals. This album is No Doubt's best one to date and I have been a huge No Doubt fan since I heard Just A Girl. The mix of the rock and dancehall sound is wonderful. It's a refreshing change to hear new sounds in music and No Doubt never disappoints in that department. I think the key to making great music is to evovle your sound and I commend No Doubt for doing that. Gwen I call thee goddess of songwriters!
Free Music Review: I had no doubt Hit: 5 Stars
When i heard "Hey Baby" on the radio for the first time, i asked myself "is this really No Doubt?" It was such a departure from anything they had done in the past that i was almost shoked/mortified. One of the few bands i really had grown to love was leaning too far to the left. But for some reason, grew to love it. The killer chorus maybe has something to do it. I bought the album the monday before the release date and have been listening to it since. "hella good" is the highlight of the album. Dark/innovative/refreshing. The beats are spaey and wouldn't be out of Timbaland's woods. Nellee Hooper takes credit for the majority of the album's best cuts, including "Detective" and "Running." Gwen's vocals in "Running" is smooth, rhymical, and perfect for this production. William Orbit produced "Making Out," another departure from past No doubt tracks. It's discoish, almost a more coherent remake of Madonna's "American Pie." "waiting room" is brilliant in its own right. Never heard nething like it, and the chorus backed up by prince is fitting. There's a few tracks that are "NO DOUBTY" ie "Dont let me down" and "Platinum Blonde Life." both sound like 80s pop classics. Overall, this is NO doubt's creative masterpeice. Gwen's vocals are confident here than in any past productions. The band exudes a sense of free-spirit and this album is a reflection of just that!

ok people...to all those who say that theres only one verse and its the chorus all over again heres what i have to say to you: you're wrong! and to those people who say that it sounds like Briteny Spears: just because she breathes loud into the microphone doesnt mean she wants to be Briteny. OOOO shes breathing into a mike lets exile their CD's! have they even bought the CD?! i downloaded the songs of the net before i bought it and it was just the chorus over and over. Then I bought the CD. Surprise Surprise it wasnt just the chorus! theses songs are so wonderful! the choruses arent repeated over and over but they are full of lyrical content! dont listen to the people who say that the songs dont have any words cuz their so wrong! my favorite songs aredont let me down-a more new wave punk song that is VERY catchy. it this is the kind of song that no doubt is known for. just like its from tragic kindgdom hey baby-how could you not like this song?! if you havent heard it yet all i have to say is "have you been living in a box?!" running-think of dont speak with just the guitar and tons os synth! this song is so caring and heart felt how could you not like it?! platinum blonde life-this song is is not a dance hall song. its pure no doubt and reminds me of tragic kingdom. kind of like "sixteen" and to those people who dont like dance hall dont worry. Theres tons of rock elements and the sounds that we're all acustomed to when thinking about no doubt.
Free Music Review: " This album is what I have always hoped to hear from them" Hit: 5 Stars
I have always felt that "No Doubt" was a almost but not quite band. "Return to Saturn" was a huge progression for them I thought. And then came "Rock Steady" a masterpiece! This cd is tight to Def! It has your rock/techno influenced tracks. Then you got great producers like Prince (The greatest)/Nelle Hooper(Madonna & Massive Attack)/William Orbit(Madonna). This album is a combo with some thing extra. You have Reggie influenced tracks and Catchy Beats, What more can you ask for? This is a sexy album in my opinion. It has some real tight cuising beats to ride to. This is a progression and a huge successful step for the band I love it. "Making out" Produced by William Orbit is such a sexy and tight record. The Prince produced "Waiting Room" is as sleezy as ever. This is the album Gwen deserves to ignite her sex appeal. I can actually feel the songs on this record it is like she is singing to me. Well, she has been compared to Madonna in the past I think she is finally showing the innovation that Madonna has conveyed. On "Rock steady" she worked with 3 people Madonna has worked with what do you think? Get this it is the most solid effort they ever done. "Tragic Kingdom other than the singles was very disappointing I thought. I don't own anything before that. But I love the this and the one before it. But this is argueably the most satifying don't sleep get this. I hate to say this but this ablum reminds me alot of Prince,I wish he would do another Fun album.Arish
Free Music Review: Steadily Rockin Hit: 5 Stars
I must admit to having had a certain amount of trepidation when I first heard that on their new album, "Rock Steady", the band had deviated a great deal from their ska-sound and went with a much more hip-hop style. My concerns weren't alleviated a whole lot when I heard the first single off of this album "Hey Baby", which, while certainly not a bad song, I didn't feel was on a par with the hits from "Return of Saturn" and "Tragic Kingdom". For that reason, I put off purchasing the disc for over a year, and that was a big mistake.Songs like "Hella Good" and "Underneath it All" are classic no doubt, and instant hits. The first one is a fast paced, catchy dance track, and the second is a softer, beautifully done ballad. "Making out", "Start the Fire" and "Detective" are also great tracks, all worthy of airtime, whether they received it or not. Gwen's distinctive vocals permeate the disc, and the songwriting shows a lot of maturation from the "Return of Saturn" effort. Gone are the borderline feminism/relationship clamoring songs, and the deeper tracks on "Rock Steady" are defintely of a higher quality and more listenable than their counterparts on previous albums. This album is a great blending of hip-hop, pop, ska, reggae, and punk, and a frequent visitor to my CD player. Great driving music that fans of No Doubt will not want to miss.
