Free Music Review: Rock On!
Hit: 5 Stars

For everyone out there who is critisizing this CD~I say SHUT UP! It's inventive and different from anything out there. Instead of just keeping to their pop/punk roots, No Doubt has dared to explore the uncharted areas of music.
All the songs on this CD are extrememly well-written and sung beautifully but Gwen and the band.

1. *Intro* Cute, classy, very good harmonizing!
2. *Hella Good* Awesome song with a great beat and amazing music! It has a very techno-modern twang that's impossible to not like.
3.*Hey Baby* Everyone has heard this single, and surprisingly, it's not the only song that shines on this album...the rest of the tunes are just as noteworthy.
4. *Making Out* A really cute song about a girl who's missing the guy she loves and anticipates them 'making out'. Although it sounds a little suggestive, there really isn't anything in this song that I wouldn't let younger kids listen to.
5. *Underneath it all* A great song~not one of the catchier ones of the album but still worth listening too.
6.*Detective* AWESOME! It's the neatest song with awesome lyrics. Very creative, about a girl who's searching to see if her guy is cheating on her.

The rest of the songs on this album are just as good as the first six. I love the fact that each song has a different feel. No Doubt has done wonderfully on this CD, and has faithfully not conformed to the mold that most bands of their type fall into.
GOOD JOB NO DOUBT!

Free Music Review: Still a great band after all these years
Hit: 5 Stars

No Doubt is ever evolving, and always genre-defying. With this album, they have successully brought New Wave back to the forefront. Several songs here rely heavily on synthesizers, such as "Running," "Making Out," and the album's first single, "Hey Baby" (Grammy Award winner for Best Pop Performance by a Group, 2003). What's surprising about this is that they do a good job of combining this New Wave sound with their traditional instrumentals--Tom's guitar, Tony's bass, and Adrian's drums are as good as ever. "Platinum Blonde Life" is a solid rock song, and other tracks--second single "Hella Good", "Detective"--do a fine job of incorporating the rock instruments into the synth-pop sound.

Also present on this album is a reggae feel, on songs such as "Start The Fire" and the album's third single, "Underneath It All," (Grammy Award winner for Best Pop Performance by a Group, 2004), which resembles the ska sound that made No Doubt famous. Also worth mentioning is Gwen's vocal work, which is amazing. This is especially evident on the closing track, "Rock Steady": the dubbing and overlay of her voice creates an amazing harmony.

With any other artist, an album that combined equal parts Rock, Reggae, and New Wave would likely sound horrible... but with No Doubt, it works perfectly. The fact that such an eclectic album was hailed by critics as the best of No Doubt's career thus far is a true testament to their genius.

Free Music Review: Stunning comeback from La Stefani & the guys
Hit: 5 Stars

I used to listen to No Noubt in my early teens, when their smash Tragic Kingdom came out -- they were an exciting "play-fun-stuff-and-grab-the-mainstream-teen-audience" band, and at times, inevitably naive.

What drew my attention to the band again, at the end of 2001, was their comeback single Hey Baby. Of course I'd heard stuff from their previous record Saturn's Return, but they failed to amaze me as this smart and jaunty number did. It seemed to me, after her well-put collaborations with US rapper Eve and electronic guru Moby, Gwen had finally found the true glitter in her voice, and was now a very confident and appealing "rock-chick".

I bought the album Rock Steady out of frustration that I could not find the record I was looking for in the record shop. Lucikly I did so -- the whole album is one hell of a parade: rock, ska, reggae, R&B and dub all melted in cutting-edge production and flavoured by Gwen's incredible voice. This was indeed, a much more better album than I'd expected, and a glorious comeback for a band that seemed to have problems as to where to fit in. With Rock Steady, No Doubt re-establish themselves as a quality mainstream band who are way apart from the other "hip shakers, hit makers" on the market.

If you're looking for something fresh in the truest sense of the word, Rock Steady is the right Choice.

Key Tracks: Hella Good, Hey Baby, Underneath It All, Running, Rock Steady

Free Music Review: Congrats to No Doubt for their maturity their daring!
Hit: 5 Stars

I am a No Doubt fan and have been since the release of their third album 'Tragic Kingdom'. I have to admit that when I first heard 'Rock Steady' I was slightly taken aback by the dance-hall sound of the album, as it is unlike anything No Doubt has ever done before. However, I find it seriously disconcerting to hear No Doubt fans calling them 'sell-outs' for dropping their signature 'ska' sound. A real No Doubt fan would realize that the most important, most praised and only real 'signature' of No Doubt's music is the fact that they cannot be crammed into one specific genre. Even their most most ska-inspired stuff is not pure ska and goes as far as including hip-hop and even disco beats. While some people refer to 'Rock Steady' as part of a carefully planned sell-out conspiracy, I say the contrary!! This album is PURE No Doubt, simply for it's ecclectism and originality! No Doubt is not using it as a vehicle to reach the top of the pop charts as much as they are using it as an expression of their diverse musical talents. I really enjoy the upbeat and original sound of 'Rock Steady' and believe it establishes No Doubt as a confident, daring and artistically maturing group willing, unlike so many bands afraid of fans' response, to express themselves in new, exciting ways. I seriously encourage fans and non-fans alike to open their ears (and their minds) and try to enjoy this awesome collection of music.

Free Music Review: 50 Minutes of Pure Fun!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

The story of No Doubt is similar to that of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Both groups started out doing VERY upbeat music and have progressed on to other styles. Along the way they developed on their instruments and as songwriters. Of course, with this progression comes the inevitable cries of "They're not like they used to be." Well thank goodness for that, as both bands are making the best music of their careers. Having only heard the "hits" from No Doubt in the past, I am simply reviewing "Rock Steady" as a single album, not as someone who listened to "Tragic Kingdom" 5 billion times and thus yearns for the "good old days." That said, "Rock Steady" is a sonic blast. There's not a single dud track on the album and some real growth here. It's great for Top 40 radio that singles with some substance, like "Hey Baby" and "Underneath It All" can be monster hits, as they introduce reggae and its various forms to young, impressionable listeners. With the variety of producers on this album, one might think that the album would be disjointed, but it flows like a bouncing wave. As great as the hits are, the song that totally gets the head bobbing (so much so that my chiropractor is getting rich), is the title track. Adrian Young deserves major credit for his flawless drumming on this song, as it ends the CD on just the right note, as you reach for the button to play it all over again.
