After hearing Norah's two tracks on the newest Charlie Hunter CD (Songs From The Analog Playground, the second best album on 2001), I was expecting great things from Norah Jones. I can't exactly say I was disappointed, but, be aware that this album is NOT similar to those two songs (except, of course, for her heavenly voice). There is almost no bass in these songs, and it plays largely (to me) like a straightforward jazz album. Yes, Billie Holliday, yes Nina Simone. But not in a ill-conceived Erykah Badu way.
After a dozen listens to get used to the slower tempos, and noticing that I've left it in the cd players for three spins in a row now, I've decided to write in and tell everyone to buy this CD. It's the best album of the year!...
